opinion on the fisher pan

Yeah it is pretty useless, it's only real use is getting duplicate legendary fish though that's more likely than not a bug and rather niche. Still a fun option to have if you do want to have the legendary fish for every use possible (regular, smoked, turned to roe, in a fish pond, in a fish tank)

Legendary fish cannot enter fish ponds. Only Fish TANKS.
Also, to get their roe, you don't do that through the Pan but rather, through your fishing rod and a treasure chest appearing (chance only, not certainty), provided that you have read the book "Jewels of the Sea", first!

I personally wouldn't recommend the Fisher enchantment for the pan. I've tried it a few times and haven't had much luck. I think the Lucky enchantment is a better option for catching rare fish.

Yes, in 1.6.9 you can put the legendary fish in fish ponds. They are limited to 1 fish per pond so they won't breed however they still produce roe infinitely

There is no 'lucky enchant' it doesn't exist. Even if it did the whole catching fish with a pan is the product of the fisher enchant, if you had this nonexistent lucky enchant then you wouldn't be able to catch the 'rare fish' in the first place, let alone any fish.
Perhaps they mean luck buffs/lucky charm? Buff and daily luck do help panning loot though don't affect the rates for the fisher enchant afaik

It would be a bad idea anyway, putting a legendary fish inside a pond, since it is going to lose the quality star and become normal... I wouldn't like my iridium legendaries be ruined like that, after all that effort to catch them with Quality Bobber! Besides, with jewels of the Sea book read, fishing on a lucky day and resetting it if it fails to appear, you can easily collect all of their roe through the treasure chest.
Also, only the Legend or Legend 2 roe, seems to be worth the fuss, price-wise. Better use the 2nd generation of Legendaries, if somebody wants them in a pond, which you can catch again and again, should the quest appear.
Other than that, did i miss something? What is this 1.6.9 that everybody is talking about? Is it a Steam only thing? My version of the game, acquired through GOG, is 1.6.8 in the most recent version...

Not really unless you care for quality of your legendaries. It’s not exactly a show of skill that you used a quality bobber to catch it like an iridium legend was pre 1.4.
you can use the fisher pan or challenge bait to get more legends to use in the pond
all the ponds make roughly the same g per day because they’re been balanced as such. Even the lowest value legends are still very high profit in fish ponds (mirroring or more than lava eel) so saying only some are worth it just because of a higher number is wrong

It's a (i think steam exclusive) open beta so CA can fix all the bugs needed to be fixed. Basically a polish to 1.6 as a whole.
he can hopefully go on a bit of a hiatus and work on Haunted Chocolatier after this!
