Timers

You know how we sometimes place kegs outside to get visual feedback for when caviar's ready?

An item called "Timer" could be used for measuring the amount of time something takes, for example.
It's a placeable item, and you could set it to a specific time, or put an item in it.
Putting an item inside a timer would give you the item back after the same amount of time it takes to make it.
You could aswell, place an adjecent sign to specify a notification to be sent once time's over.

Let me know if you find this interesting.
I could try to mod the game and have a proof of concept if you find this would be helpful to you.

Hi ads and Welcome to the Forums!

This is a great idea! I wonder if it could be added as another screen like the quest screen. As you add your Ancient Fruit into Jars or Starfroot into Kegs, it can automatically add the timer to the list. Set a tolerance value so if it takes you 1 in-game hour to load all of them, you only get one timer for each similar thing you do. Maybe have an option to exclude things you don't want to track (too short - Coffee, Oil, Cheese, etc; too long - Wine in Casks) and a quick close or ignore button if you don't care about a particular item so you can keep the list to a reasonable length.

Your Caviar/Fish Roe example is perfect as I never know how long it's gonna take and am always peeking into the shed. Are you Done? No. Finished yet? No. How 'bout n--? dangitttt!!

Nice idea.

Additionally to the Farm Computer could give more visual indication, whats ready to harvest or collect from tools.

If it just gives back the item would it actually do anything over just having an indicator machine though? You'd still need to interact it to restart it when you actually go and harvest the machines unless you do it exactly as soon as the machine is ready every time (not even possible for most processes as they have intervals that aren't perfectly rounded to a day)

Valid point. I just thought that adding a whole new menu for a single machine wasn't the smartest option, as there is much more overhead. But it could be managed, of course.

Thanks Lew. Yes, that approach to it is quite interesting. It will be nice if this is actually implemented. I do believe that balancing could be necessary so that it's not just something you can get right out of the gate. Maybe a new Special Item or Power in this case? Something you could get from the Dwarf?

No I totally agree, I'm just wondering how this would be any different than having an indicator besides the in between days I guess....

Could be pretty cool, honestly could be an application of the calendar too, being able to mark stuff down, or a new feature with written signs, like placing a sign on the machine puts up a timer?
