Why Joja

The game is currently framed by a cut scene in which the PC, made miserable working as a CSR for Joja, goes to SDV to get away from it and run his grandfather's farm. In this context there is no narrative logic for the PC to go the Joja route. A player would need to be quite contrarian to do that. So, what if the PC opened the drawer and found his grandfather's letter and an invitation from Morris? Then a narrative exists in which it makes sense for the PC to go Joja.

I suspect you're not supposed to have a strong narrative reason to go Joja, like you said, some people will want to simply to be contrarian. Looking outside of narrative reasons, there are game mechanic differences that make it worth taking that route for some people.

The game is set up by the intro to have the PC rejecting the consumerist lifestyle promoted by Joja to embrace community.

You *could* have there be some kind of narrative throughline of going from a menial office worker for Joja to being the head of their Stardew Valley branch via Morris headhunting and maybe the offer of a regular salary once completing the membership, but that would undermine the narrative and make the game something entirely different.

Maybe if Morris showed up at your farm, After you open the community center. Provide some reasons to go in that contrarian route.. Been a while since I played any early game stuff but I don't remember joja ever trying to sway me. I think it's a good idea:) never done Joja, Never considered it.

Having Morris try to sway you would probably be the best way to work it in a narrative sense. That's a good idea.

I feel like a lot of people are going to go Joja after 1.6

Well, after restoring the CC three times over two versions, I gave Joja a shot. Skipping the opening cut scene let me avoid the cognitive dissonance. It was nice just throwing money I made by fishing at Morris for year one, not having to plant a seed until I had the greenhouse. Not having to feel like I'd cost Shane his job and taken a budget alternative away from Jodi. And, after the Quality Produce quest, being able to chortle that Pierre didn't have a monopoly.

Ooo look at you with all these expensive Eggs you be whippin' at everyone who smiles at you the wrong way. And here I have to make do with Blueberries like a peasant if I want in on some of that hate. I guess I'm slummin' it with the sloppy vegan equivalent to the elitist grandiosity of your surplus animal ammunition.
