Joja path needs more incentive

Not that I like Joja. It would just be interesting to have more benefits of membership that make going CC more of a moral decision rather than a mild inconvenience, like:

- Prices cheaper than Pierre's

- Hot Foods section (pulls from the same pool as Gus, but a tad cheaper)

- Home Improvement section (random craftables)

- Mail Order Gifting. Each resident has a wishlist containing random love, like, or neutral items. You can order them delivered on the next day, Item will always be base quality.

Unlimited auto-petters. Nuf said.
I never found those to be worth going Joja. You can hold pet to do it fast. Collecting is harder since you need to click on each one.

Plus eventually you can find them in Skull Cavern. By the end of a playthrough I usually am tossing them out because I have too many.

Honestly not sure what more incentives you need. Doing Joja is cheaper than CC, quicker than CC, keeps Clint available on Fridays, doesn't require fishing, retains the late night shopping option if you want seeds after 5pm or on a Wednesday, allows you to buy as many cheap Autopetters as you want (instead of trusting to luck in Skull Cavern treasure rooms) and gives you a Soda Machine to put in the middle of the town square. What more do you want?

If anything, it's the bundles that need better incentives

Yeah as one more day said it’s honestly the community center that needs more than a moral incentive rather than joja. Clint not working a day is worse than Pierre not being open one day when joja can substitute, is open far longer, and the key to the town does the same thing for Pierre too….

For me the main issue isn't incentive but rather that the Joja option seems boring.

CC encourages you to try a little of everything the game has to offer (with the travelling merchant filling in for most areas where you just don't like it). If you get tired of fishing or the fish you need isn't available yet, you can work on some monster slaying for a different bundle. You can forage for that mushroom you need to complete the dye bundle or mine your way down to the lava levels for that fire quartz. Petting your chickens and planting grass for them gets you closer to the large eggs you need. Almost any activity you choose to do in-game is working toward the goal of completing CC.

Then you have the Joja route that looks like a big grind to get more gold faster. Of course you can do a little of everything, but it'll be clear you aren't making much progress toward your goal unless that something is profitable.

I feel like the game was designed to direct people towards being kind, helping others and choose the path of goodness and non-corporate businesses in the town. That seems very obvious from the opening scene. And the fact that Joja cola is considered "trash". But then I always play games in this positive mindset. I never play thieves or assassins in games. And I would never chose Joja Mart over the community center. I just couldn't.

It would have been cool if Joja offered lower prices than Pierre's, but repeatedly buying from them eventually drove Pierre out of business. Pierre could then get some character growth, realizing he's been focusing too much on the business to the neglect of his family.

I love the way Kaito Kid implemented Joja in the Archipelago Mod. Joja sells seeds all year round in bulk for a discounted price. Cheaper seeds and a store that's open late 7 days a week would really give some teeth to the evil Joja scenario CA set up!
