I have checked out the wiki and am appalled by the quality of the German translation. Luckily I have chosen to play the game in English and avoided seeing this mess. I'm gonna assume the SD wiki follows the in-game names. The following points are: is -> should be
- Sprinkler -> Regner. This is the actual agricultural term
- Fishing; Bobber -> Schwimmer. "Bobber" doesn't exist in German as a term.
- Fishing; some bobbers are translated as "bait" (DE: Köder) --> use correct word, either Schwimmer or Köder (Bobber/Bait respectively)
- in some cases one could argue whether Köder is still applicable where bobber is used, but this is no longer a faithful translation then and expands/reimagines the meaning of the original
- All of them need to be reviewed
- Fishing, the skill is translated as "Fischen" in German --> Angeln.
- "Fischen" kinda works until you have to consider using it in context of being a skill (-fähigkeit / -fertigkeit), like on the wiki. Then it becomes "Fischfähigkeit", literally "Fish('s) skill" or whatever. I'm not sure who wrote that particular word or whether it was auto-translated too. Angeln is unambiguous, more versatile and is an established game localizations exist: "Angelfertigkeit" like in WoW.
- Schleim-Ei (slime egg) may work on its own, but when you consider Schleim-Eierpresse (slime egg-press), the dash breaks the meaning: "egg press [made out of] slime. Either:
- slime egg is translated without dash: "Schleimei" and then "Schleimeier-Presse" / "Schleimeierpresse"
- or all of it is separated by dashes for clarity: "Schleim-Eier-Presse"
- Geoden Brecher -> Geodenbrecher
- Gold-Ei -> Goldei or Goldenes Ei (the spelling of eggs is inconsistent)
- Enten-Mayonnaise (mayonnaise out of ducks?) -> Mayonnaise aus Entenei (singular makes more sense in context of crafting recipe)
- same for dinosaur
- Kriegsdenkmal (War Memento)-> Kriegsandenken
- or just anything else. A "Denkmal" is a statue, not a photograph!!!
Come on! "du denkst nur an mich" as the first part of the sentence reads like "you [always] think about me" as if in love and then the sentence does a plot twist "as a friend".“Liebe Emily,
Ich weiß, du denkst nur an mich als einen Freund.
