Worst luck

MASSIVE UPDATE: after using Oshawk’s switch seed cracker I figured out that I only needed 4 more treasure troves!!!!!!!!!!! And I completed the museum!!!

To be clear, I only started with 10 treasure troves. But I restarted the day after cracking them open and not getting anything and got 10 normal geodes. I’d sleep a day and then crack those geodes and then the treasure trove ones. Rinse and repeat. Basically this made it so I wouldn’t have to keep hunting for omni geodes to get treasure troves which took forever. And it worked perfectly.

I’ve gone through 60 treasure troves without getting elvish jewelry… it’s the last thing I need for the museum on this save

What are some times you’ve felt like you have the worst luck????
In my first Stardew Expanded game, I felt as if I might NEVER get that Danger in the Deep quest from Qi. The Quest *finally* came... about 3 seasons after I had unlocked Ginger Island!

It is said that 1 or 2 artifacts, randomly chosen (probably to the unique, individual seed number), are always *that* much harder to get, compared against other players' world seed.

In my 1.5 save, i spent a year (in-game) praying to meet Chipped Amphora, for instace! In my previous 1.6 save (the one i abandoned because work boots wouldn't appear, post trashing them accidentally at mid-game), it was the lemon stone that wouldn't appear at all. I broke ~300 magma geodes and still no luck. How i got it? Statue of Luck from the casino (the one costing 1 million)! It spat it out just like that, during Dwarf's birthday.

Some of that's just how probability works. Like, let's say there were 100 artifacts, hypothetically. When you have three left to get, every time you get a random artifact you would have a 3% chance of getting one of the ones you need, so it would take an average of about 33 tries to get one of them. Then you have two left, which means with a 2% chance to get one of the two you need it would take an average of 50 more tries. When you have one left, it'll take an average of 100 more tries. So the last artifact will usually take about twice as long as the second-to-last artifact, and dramatically more than all your previous artifacts, just because you're looking for an exact specific one rather than one out of X you need.

And it actually isn't too unlikely for it to take significantly longer than expected average, too: for example, with 3.6% of getting any given artifact from the artifact trove (odds taken from the wiki) you would expect it to take about 28 tries to get Elvish Jewelry. But the odds of going 60 tries without getting it are about 11%: definitely bad luck, but "about one in every ten games" bad luck, rather than the astronomical odds it feels like.

Of course this is all assuming abstract "truly random" completely independent probability which probably isn't 100% being used given the existence of Stardew Predictors and whatnot? (I am a bit of a math nerd, rather than a programming one) But personally speaking I highly doubt Concerned Ape put in secret "choose a random artifact and make it deliberately harder to find just to mess with the players" code.

Very smart, this is what I recommend with troves, you don't even need to sleep the day, just restart and crack as many geodes as troves you last cracked

Saves a LOT of time when troves cost 5 omnis each

I've gone through the skull caverns on a day where the spirits were Very Happy and have had multiple floors where I have to break almost every stone on the floor to find a ladder. 😅
