Work Boots: a journey comes to an close

I joined these forums 3 years ago (February 2022) for a couple of reasons: I was already an avid fan of stardew with 600+ hours (doubled now), I was looking for a sense of community, and I had already been lurking for a while. But another factor was the real reason I decided to make an account. My very second post was about the ever so elusive... work boots. If you live under a rock, basically the only way to get these boots if you never had remixed mine bundles is through a fishing treasure chest. In my post I had some questions- needed some advice... you see, I had still been hopeful. At that point I was also grinding the living hat and after getting it that year (thereby completing my hat collection) I was even more determined to get my last pair of shoes. I kept posting on here and in a random batch of about dozen of posts, I would offhandedly mention the rarity of these boots in at least one or two, cracking jokes and it kind of became a thing I was known for. Behind the scenes, I remember spending entire days grinding fishing for the work boots it was honestly kind of crazy how much time I've spent in stardew just on fishing for the work boots. I also remember rage quitting once when I fished up the firewalker boots which have the same chance to been caught like the work boots... that was a dark day. I fished up so much loot, it was insane!! I had been doing other completionist things like tailoring all the shirts and stuff like that, but this was always on my mind when it came to stardew. I also remember trying to do this glitch thing where you change your seed by duplicating your file so I could get the work boots from the mine bundles from a new multiplayer player? And I was willing to demolish a fully upgraded house and married player with maxxed out skills on my farm to do that so THANK YOBA I tested it on other farm before realizing I needed to have remixed bundles in the first place. That's a long story... Anyway, from like 2022-2024 I was really grinding on and off for months at a time- if I had to estimate I'd guess I had spent around like 100 out of my 1200 SDV hours on this alone? I honestly have no idea if I'm lowballing it or not but I swear it was insane. In the fall I had done some math and I estimated opening around 3,000 chests on the one save? ANYWAY I also felt like I had brought awareness to this situation, I feel like nobody really understood my troubles until I started posting about it a lot. People started bringing it up without me around and I, along with some others, were definitely hoping that CA would make another way to get them in the 1.6 update. Then the 1.6. update comes out which is great, but on the work boots side of it all- I'm devastated. I remember scrounging the patch notes like a raccoon trying to find any hint of work boots. And I was like: "maybe there's still some hope, maybe something got changed and it just wasn't noted. Hey, at the very least the chances of finding the work boots can't decrease... right? RIGHT????" Without getting into spoilers for endgame, the chances of getting work boots from a fishing treasure chest actually reduced from 0.012% to 0.008%... and at that point I kind of had already stopped grinding the boots so I gave up for a while devastated. Before 1.6 came out on switch I had like this last hope push kind of thing, but it quickly dwindled out. In that time, I had made a 'Life of a Work Boots Scavenger' post, that looking back at now is hilarious, but it went over some of the stats and also all the loot I had gotten at that point. The update came out on consoles in November and by then I was sure I was never getting my hands on the work boots for that one completionist save. And then something INSANE happened: this post. In a 1.6.9 patch WORK BOOTS WOULD BE ADDED INTO THE ADVENTURES GUILD! Meaning I could get my little grubby hands on a pair just by paying for them: perfection for me literally had a fixed price of 700g and I was so ready for it. And the best part is that PC and console would get the patch for it on the same day. Then the patch came out and... the work boots weren't there. I was literally so distraught I even messaged a developer of SDV to confirm that this was in fact a glitch. So I waited for a patch ANDDDD... it still wasn't there. Like honestly the whiplash of all these events is kind of in- OH MY GOD WHAT THERE WAS A PATCH THIS WEEK THAT FINALLY GAVE ME THE WORK BOOTS???? THANK YOBA!!!!!!

Keep in mind the time that it took from realizing that I could get feasibly get the work boots to the time I actually got them was a span of FIVE MONTHS. Like it took forever, but honestly after over 2 years of fishing at that point, I was willing to wait. It's crazy how everything ended up turning out and I'm so glad I've been able to share this journey with you all. <33 Thank you for reading :)

I'm so happy to be here to witness the ultimate culmination of the Work Boots Saga! Congratulations! I can't believe it's done and I love your story! What happens next?? I dunno but I wrote a little thing.

_____

A Hero's Journey

Farmer Kira stands upon a dirt road, gazing into the distance. Recalling her memories comprising the events of a lifetime, compressed into a tumultuous three years. Her quests of renown complete, she wonders whether the challenges of the future will grasp at her imagination and play on her frustrations and determination as the ones recently past. On many an occasion the call to action is answered not only by people forged in battle but by others informed by more personal reasons, be they family, worldview, or calling. Farmer Kira's birthsign fell under The Seamstress, thus directing a life's work of tailoring and associated searches for the perfect cloth and raw materials.

Questing took Farmer Kira to the far reaches of the lands to mine Iridium, and Fire Quartz, to prospect for Prehistoric Bones and long-forgotten Strange Dolls, to expertly craft Fertilizers and Energy Tonics, to fearlessly cook Pepper Poppers and Fried Eel, to forage for Morels and long-buried Winter Roots, to swiftly pluck Duck Eggs and Rabbit's Feet (!) from unsuspecting animals, to mightily wrangle the very Eels and Squid from the heartless depths of the ocean, to uncover the mysterious havens hiding Prismatic Shards, and tease Golden Coconuts from their secretive lairs aloft the island palms. She even married the other local seamstress to pool their talents and hopefully maybe learn the secret handshake.

All this in service of creating the greatest wardrobe ever witnessed by human or beast.

But.

There can be only one...

Royal PAIN in the patoot :bread:.

As the long and hard-earned quest was finally drawing to a close, there remained an obscure, plain, functionless, bland, seemingly inconsequential yet ultimately gigantic inevitableness. Mathematics and statistics reared their ugly heads, dashing the hopes of a seamstress on the hard rocks of the shoreline as she fished incessantly, searching for the Holey Grail, an old stinky musty waterlogged pair of Work Boots. The type of thing you fish up with wild abandon in other games, almost as a joke. But not here. Someone ignored the math, dooming our farmer to futility. But sometimes over the course of many years errors are corrected, only to be cruelly replaced by others. But Nature finds a way and eventually after long hours and excessive amounts of patience--

Someone restocked the shelves.

Loads o' Work Boots, we gots all ya needs for 10% less than a jar of Melon Jelly. Discounts for everyone, look just take all these here we lots palletsfull coming in tomorrow. Everything must go!

All the languages of the world continue to pool their linguistic resources in vain attempts to describe the look on Farmer Kira's face but even with countless millions of prize money inspiring generations of wordsmiths, none have vaguely approached accuracy while using fewer than 3000 words. Perhaps some things are better left unsaid.

So anticlimactic. But why? How did this suddenly happen?

Easy answer:
Work Boots Seeds. They just grow 'em on trees now. Boooooring.

Farmer Kira glances back at the path behind her, strewn with dreams, frustrations, blood, sweat, tears, love, loss, and lots of patience. That is the past. Turning forward to face the late afternoon sun she looks down the path, pondering as Emily meanders towards her. Each taking her wife's hand, they slowly stroll down the path towards their future with smiles on their warmly illuminated faces.

Thanks for the hilarious write-up. Loved the shrine and the chart had me laughing. Would you conisder yourself a work boot enthusiast? Aficionado? Stalker, even?

Glad you finally got them!

P.S. Save some of those work boots for the rest of us! 😅
The adventurers guild is officially out of stock of work boots cause some obsessed fan bought them all! They hope to have more in the indeterminate future, or will they? 🤨😂

Was going to show off a chest of random stuff that contained work boots from one of oh so many fishing trips. But sadly I had sold them to make room. Had no idea they were this hard to get. They didn't look very good statwise, so Marlon got them 😥

Had 3 pairs of Leprechaun shoes too, which I couldn't remember the source of. Wiki tells me it was one of the trains I happened to catch. Two pairs of Crystal shoes, but suppose those aren't that rare.

Anyway, congratulations with the conclusion of this lifelong search. I hope you had some good boots on the long march to freedom 😋
