1.6 Update Why is console still only 4 person multiplayer?

So, I have enough friends to run a farm and a half, and we were looking forward to all playing on one farm instead of hopping around. And then it turns out, of course, we can't. But, why? And will it ever change to allow up to 8? We're pretty sad about it, no lie.

I believe it's just down to performance, primarily for the already very weak switch (with ps4 not being amazing either according to some). it's better to restrict all of the platforms operating with the same restrictions (inability to really change game files/code) than to deal with constant complaining.

That would make sense; single player is already making my switch (lite) stutter a bit. I don't mind, as it's nothing compared to the games I grew up on, but I'm thinking no second player cabin with upgraded cellar. I can't imagine the poor thing trying to deal with four player inputs at once.
