Royal Serpents are obnoxious to grind. Pretty easy to beat once you get the hang of it tho.

Conditions that scale up your chances of a monster dropping a Trinket are:
High Daily Luck
Luck Buffs, the more Luck the better
More difficult monsters (in general)
So doing the following:
Dangerous Mines
High Daily Luck day
Lucky Ring
Lucky Lunch + Ginger Ale (+4 Luck total)
will give you a much higher chance of dropping a Trinket than:
regular Mines
Average or Low Daily Luck day
no food Luck Buffs
no Ring
Every bit you can add tips the odds in your favor.

Ohhhh, this explains why I didn't get any trinkets for the longest time, and at some point I suddenly started getting swamped with them. This must have been when I turned dangerous mines on (I like the woodsy levels, because I can collect hay). Dangerous mines are great for loot.

It depends heavily on monster health, so it's not even difficult monsters you have to fight, but rather bulky ones.
People recommend royal serpents because their health scales with health, so you can selectively fight really long ones with 1000~ health and have the best drop rate.

I get a lot of trinkets in the dangerous mines from what is normally the ice levels. From the jumping spiders and the other things that are normally the dust sprites.
