What to invest in

I’m finally to the point where I’m making decent money. I’ve got a good sized farm, plenty of animals, and reached fishing level 10.
I just finished the community center in year 2 and am starting to realize just how massive this game is. I haven’t scratched the surface of what can be done. So I really don’t know where to go from here. I’ve got 250k saved up that I just don’t know what to do with yet.
Any advice? What do you wish you had done early on?

There are things you can purchase that cost millions. The obelisks you can buy from the wizard cost quite a bit. There's the return scepter. If you don't have a stables yet and a horse, get that. Not knowing what you have done, it's hard to suggest what to do, though.

Ideally you will want to be constantly reinvesting to a certain point, be that setting up self sustaining infrastructure like regrowing crops and processing machines, animals, etc.

Right now you could start investing in varied crops so that you have enough crops for everything cooking and crafting related in the game. Once you have some more to invest the obelisks are a great investment for saving little bits of time here and there.

You want big money, for the end-game. Make lots of beehouses in Ginger Island, around Fairy Rose flowers. Start an ancient-fruit and starfruit plantation in greenhouse and/or ginger island. Get yourself 1 big shed full of barrels that make pickles/jam. 1 big shed full of kegs, to make juice/wines. 1 big shed full of crystalariums, 3/4 of them diamonds and 1/4 of them jades (to trade for staircases and go full Skull-Cavern raids, on lucky days, with lucky buffs). Fill your cellar with the special barrels for aging products. Build many fish poinds, especially of the rare, difficult to catch ones, or those who have great item table. Get some pigs, build a number of oil making machines, truffle them in. Utilize the vast, safe area in Ginger Island farm, to excessively plant the good stuff, all year round.

I just finished the quest to unlock the obseliks, and wow those cost a pretty penny. I guess I’ll have to wait on those for a bit. But I’ll definitely get a horse. Thanks!

Thank you for the great tips!

Thanks for the advice! I’m playing riverlands farm, so the sheds will be great for saving space.

I agree, you need to invest all that money into crops. Late game stuff like obelisks etc cost a lot and you need money for everything which crops are honestly the best at. I recommend getting to ginger island and setting up massive pineapple farms- (if you fill up the main farm space, they bring in >200k a week). On my pelican town farm I like to plant 900-1000 crops per season. So I would spend your time mining to get a ton of sprinklers to make massive farms.

Honestly if you’re at ginger island it’s far better to just go straight for starfruit, no need to bother using seedmakers to get the bulk of your crop and it makes far more cash. You can move that into ancient fruit if you want a regrowable.

Thanks for that tip, ever since I did the Island ingredients challenge I just kept the whole island pineapple cause I didn't want to mess with it. But I think I'll switch over to starfruit for a few rounds and see if I get annoyed at having to replant or like the profits. I wish we could use junimo huts on the island farm- like have parrot labor nests that harvest all my crops.
