Early game there are a lot of different paths to making money. Nothing is going to leave you rolling in dough, but everything will make you a little. Fishing is one of the most commonly recommended, but it can be tricky for new players to get the hang of. Growing crops to sell, raising chickens for eggs (and then mayo), going to the mines and selling the gems, and finishing quests are all great ways to make money early game. Even picking up forage can make some money, though I tend to use forage-ables for food and/or gifts more often than selling.

Mid game, transitioning to processed goods will open up much better sell values. Mayo, cheese, pickles, wine, cloth, smoked fish, etc., all have a lot higher sell value than their raw forms. You'll also start getting access to the mossy logs (I think they're called? Mushroom logs?), batteries, and ore from skull cavern, which all can be sold at very nice prices.

Late game, everybody has their favorites, but aged wine is a favorite standby for a lot of people. It's relatively low time investment once it's set up, while giving a very nice payout.

plus, crack open your geodes, and choose between selling them for money and donating them to the museum. Sell forageables and if you're after day five, battling monsters and selling loot might be good. When you reach high levels of farming, craft kegs and preserves jars, and late game with your cellar just age all your wine and cheese and it's like, tons of money. Befriend villagers, Emily is a good suggestion because she sends you gifts like wool, cloth, and sea urchin. Plus, cook recipes and sell them. You might want to be friends with linus and get wild bait to catch two fish at a time

Sorry, but fishing is one of the best early money making tactics. Fish in the Mountain Lake during the Spring when it's not raining. When it is raining, get Catfish in the river in the Pelican town or by Leah's house. Get the Fiberglass rod ASAP, but if you can't get the training rod. It'll only catch easy fish, but the green bar will be higher.

Getting into the mines, trying to get as many Jades and Diamonds as possible to sell.

Strawberries, Potatoes and Kale are solid crops to grow in Spring for money and XP.

Preserve Jars, Kegs, Bee Houses for the honey (certain flowered honey will make you more money).

Make an Oak Resin farm for the kegs that you need.

Get Caroline up to 2 hearts for the tea sapling recipe.

Get Linus up to 4 hearts for the Sashimi recipe.

If you don't care about completing the museum, sell all the geodes/artifacts/minerals.

Get a Coop and Barn ASAP for chickens and cows. You can sell their produce for money. If you start at the Meadowlands Farm, you can get a Coop and two chickens sooner.

If you start at the Riverland Farm, you can get a free fish smoker.

Try and complete quests by Pierre's shop. You can get money, and every so often you'll get a prize ticket to use at Lewis' home to get random items that can potentially help you make money.
