Unlucky time in Stardew Valley

One of my farmers seems to be very unlucky. She is about to start year 3 and still no prismatic shard and still no ancient seed. I've dug repeatedly the artifact spots in Cindersap Forest and the Mountains, farmed the bugs in the Mines and Mutant's Lair... still unlucky.

What makes it even more frustrating is that two of my other farmers created almost at the same time than the first one, both got their first ancient seed in spring1...

Do you have similar story to share ?

That. Damned. Chipped. Amphora. First MP save that @Cuusardo and I did? No matter what we did we couldn't find it until year 3. It was just so damned frustrating.
Oh that cursed chipped amphora got me too. Didn’t find it until year 4.

My first farmer couldn’t find the last dwarf scroll until year 4. I stood in front of the dwarf, jealous of all the farmers who could speak dwarvish, desperate for bombs.

But, one of my current farmers has bad luck of my own making. He was testing out the tea sapling strategy and rushing to marry Haley. Somehow, he managed to remember to check the traveling cart regularly. There he found the coveted red cabbage seed. Mid summer, he trotted of to the community center to complete the dye bundle. But, to his utter shock- no dye bundle. He cycled through the bulletin board 3,4,5 times. No. Dye. Bundle. I forgot I chose remixed bundles. And I was completely unprepared for the bundles I did have.

It sucks.

Absolutely no coffee beans from sprites until last day of fall year 1.

Normally I would get a dozen or so, and at least 1-2 before the end of spring. This time - nothing. Then it dropped on the very last day of coffee season. Ugh!

(To balance things out, I found a Neptune's Glaive in one of my first fishing chests on this save)

Ugh, it took me 800+ bug kills to get my first ancient seed on my current file. For a 0.5% chance! (And then I got a second one 12 kills later, because of course.)

On a different file, I broke 1000+ rocks in the volcano dungeon before getting the mummified bat, also a 0.5% chance. I resorted to asking Blade if the chance listed on the wiki was even correct (it was).

3 f*****g years going every day in the volcano searching for the mummified bat. It was before the bug was fixed.
I read when there is the qi's challenge about Qi's fruits, there would be a better possibility to found it. Now the bug is fixed, so, it's mooore easy found it.
And an enite year to found the journal scrap n.11, for the ostrich egg and the last golden nut. I went in to the volcano and bombs every rock util it drops journal scraps. it was a file very poor of journal scraps.

I just started year 4 in my current farm and I still haven't found that pesky chipped amphora. **disgruntledness intensifies**

That chipped amphora seems to be cursed. I once considered installing SVE for a moment just to get it (certain artifacts -- just that amphora and that little sword abound in there -- so much that it is absurd).

I've had problems with artifacts taking years to find, across multiple saves. It seems that no matter how much deep, deep searching I do it takes forever to finish that damn collection.

I recently saw Wickedy Chickedy (she’s a SDV streamer) search for a snake vertebrae on Ginger Island. According her, the artifact spots can give you different items, depending on how many times you dig before you hoe the artifact spot. Changing the order you dig up multiple spots can work too- or at least it worked for the snake fossils. It seems monotonous but some artifacts are cursed. It may be worth trying in town.

I *think* that's only for the snake vertebra where # of tiles hoed affects it - @BlaDe can probably confirm.
However, if you check an artifact spot and don't get what you want, what you can do it reset the day, avoid checking it that day, and sleep to the next day and then check it again. It'll give something different. This way you can check the same artifact spot multiple times (although it will eventually disappear between days). Some people this is cheating and others don't, YMMV, but if you're at the point of wanting to install mods, this might be a simpler way.

Also, what you can do is go to Skull Caverns, and just repeatedly go in and out of floor 1, killing any ghosts you see (maybe break some rocks along the way, or just break rocks if you don't want to fight). Daggers are good for this since the special attack pins them in place, negating the big knockback ghosts have. If you feel like you're in danger of dying, don't get too far from the entrance, you can just exit and eat in safety. You should get a decent amount of omni geodes that you can trade for artifact troves, which have a 3.7% chance of giving both the chipped amphora and the ancient sword.
Or if you're on PC, you can just get one or two artifact troves, and then use the Stardew Predictor website to figure out how many geodes you need to open before opening a trove to get what you want.

I wondered if that system was only for snake vertebrae. But now I’m curious, @Elenna101, do artifact spots change daily or does time of day affect them too? For example, would hoeing the same spot at 11 and 5 give you different items?

Edit: I almost tagged you in my first post @Elenna101, because I figured you’d know if I was wrong!

Funny that y'all are discussing Chipped Amphora and Snake Vertebra as I need the Vertebra and just got an apparently second Amphora as I've already donated one. I swear I've never seen one before but then memory holes are an excellent excuse for that. At least I can Tailor something unique with it!

FYI I got my current Amphora from an Artifact Trove, and I'm also curious about the chances of Artifact Spots on Ginger Island day-to-day, along with @Boo1972 .

That reminds me of that unlucky first playthrough where I spent a very very long time looking for snake TAIL. Because see, I've already donated one "spine" thingy so each new one I got went into the bonecrusher. Tails, where are the snake tails?

Oh.

Right.

Snakes are all-tail. Just the head upfront. No separate tailpart. Um.

So many snake vertebrae crushed...

Time of day does not affect them. If you know a spot contains an Anchor on the beach, it'll be an Anchor whether you dig it up at 9am or 11pm.

Edit: Does anyone else find that when you spend forever looking for something, after you find it suddenly it's abundant?
It took me like a Month of Volcano runs to get 10 Dragons Teeth, and then suddenly once I no longer needed them, they were all over. The last Volcano run I did I got 8 on that one trip alone!
Or you'll spend a year looking for a Bone Flute and then find 3 in a month after it's located, that sort of thing.

Spoiler: Lategame Example
Yes, this exact thing actually. There are so many now, and I'm scratching my head wondering where they were when I needed them.

Also with the Dino Egg artifact. It took me almost an in-game year to find that stupid thing, and then suddenly afterwards I found two in a two week period. Frustrating, but it's part of the game I suppose.

Your late game spoiler run is better than mine- I managed 6 of that particular item in one run. I was so shocked, because the first time I played 1.5 it took almost a whole in-game year to find that many. My current farm? I found all the dragon’s teeth I needed and more before my banana trees matured. It is weird.

Yeah, just daily, not affected by time of day.

Also, yep, my comment above about killing 800 bugs before getting an ancient seed, and then getting another one 12 bugs later.
