Windows Trees changing in 1.6. (spoilers)

So the patch notes state that trees can lose their leaves in fall. I took this to mean that fall oak trees can be replaced by winter oak trees, fall maple trees can be replaced by winter maple trees, etc. What I'm getting in my game is fall oak and maple trees being replaced by leafless moss trees. This not only impacts aesthetics, but it prevents us from tapping our oak and maple trees. Is this intended behavior or a bug? Thanks.

this is intended behavior as far as im aware and im pretty sure the changing trees is only a new texture and not a new asset. you can still harvest moss from them with a scythe or sword and still tap the trees in winter! i just finished winter y1 on my new save after the update and my trees were producing pine tar, oak resin and maple syrup through out the season
