Treasure hunting: Ginger Island diggable tiles

The purpose of this resource is to identify which tiles are available to use
Treasure Totems on at Ginger Island for the purpose of Treasure Hunting!

Yarrrrrr!

I hope to eventually identify which tiles are the best for placing Treasure Totems as they are expensive (
Moss x10,
Hardwood x5,
Mystic Syrup x1) and I kinda super wasted a whole lot of them at the Pelican Town Beach (in Winter no less!) where I should have been saving them for the extra-lucrative returns that locations at Ginger give. Without further ado:

Ginger Island South:

Ginger Island West:

Ginger Island North:

Ginger Island Southeast:

The GI West was taken at 8pm so the color's off but I processed all of them to make it easier to see. Doing this in the rain greatly helps of course.

Because
the Mermaid is there for chitchat and exchange of haircare strategies! Um yeah, I guess it also makes the available tiles way easier to see. Whatever.

The Treasure Totem strategy will be interesting as it spawns this circle of Artifact Spots 3 tiles away from you so minimizing the overlap in order not to waste this valuable resource is an essential part of The Buccaneer's Calculus. Interesting non-coincidence that the totems spawn 16 Artifact Spots as that's only as high as most Pirates can count on their fingers, toes and peg leg.

As an initial point of reference, I replayed the day just kinda eyeballing 20 Treasure Totems on the South, West, and North maps only but I over-overlapped a few, oops. But remembering the Buccaneer's Calculus, we shouldn't waste resources! So I had:

High Luck day
Iridium Hoe enchanted with Generous
+5 Luck from Magic Rock Candy
+1 Luck from Ginger Ale

The total is in the bottom 2 rows, ignoring the Fishing Pole of course:

Y6Sp23 Hi luck, MRC, GA, Generous Iridium, 20 Treasure Totems.JPG

Why do this? Well for swashbuckling of course, note how piratey I'm dressed. Yeah this was spur of the moment because of the High Luck day so I didn't plan my outfit, oops. Next time! But the real reason is I want all the Golden Coconuts plus the 2 remaining Shirts which are obtainable only from random action drops.

Next up is trying to map this with the proper placement of Treasure Totems to minimize overlapping and reviewing which kinds of Luck actually do anything when digging Artifact Spots. Mmmmm map and overlap rhyme with nap and now I'm tired.

OK I mapped out the first and most important Treasure Totem plan as the Ginger Island West map is on Stardew Planner and luckily that's also the most open for diggin' fer treayzzhurre!

Iridium Sprinklers are where you should set the Totems off and Stone paths are where the wiggly worms will wallow, waiting.

Totem Placements Ginger West.JPG

17 total totems with IMO minimal overlapping. However if you want to further reduce the overlap thanks to resource shortages there are 3 clusters of 3, each which can be reduced to two: one middle right, and one on each side of the river. Remove the Totem/Sprinkler in each cluster that's vertically offset, leaving the 2 directly horizontally offset ones in each cluster. And the most dedicated treasure hunters out there should rememberrrrrrr: ye can pickaxe all yer hoed spots to repairrrrr the sand and set off yer extra Totems agin!

Ginger South and Southeast will probably be easy as there are few real clean options but Ginger North is gonna be a pain. I skipped the nap. Shouldn't have...

LUCK

Here's how Luck will affect your finding
Treasure from these spots:

Daily Luck will only boost finding
Mystery Boxes and
Golden Animal Crackers so if you're not looking for those, maybe waiting for a High Luck day isn't worth it and instead spend that day in Skull Cavern looking for Treasure Rooms. Yeah, you can go Treasure hunting there, too!

Luck Buffs (Food, Rings) are even less useful, only boosting your chances of finding
Animal Crackers.

So not worth it for me as Luck doesn't affect much of what I'm looking for other than you can use Mystery Boxes to trade in for Magic Rock Candy once you unlock it from the Raccoons. It turns out that's something I'm doing so I'll probably go on modest Luck days and save High Luck and
Magic Rock Candy for Skull Cavern Treasure dives.

So I replayed the same High Daily Luck day with the intent to do the current optimal placement of Treasure Totems on the Ginger Island West beach. But of course messed up some placements though I now see that it should be easily doable using the various bits in the sand as guides for placement along with generated Artifact Spots.

Here are the results from 20 Treasure Totems: the 17 correct placements, 2 wrong ones and one accidental oops! Because it ain't a true Farmer Bobbi production if there isn't at least one big oops. No consumed Luck Buffs this time as they do nothing useful for me.

Here's the first one from above for comparison using a similar number of totems, there are different bones as I used the South and North maps for that one:

Notes so far:

2 cosmetic items are identical, interesting
Different books from different Ginger maps? Or just random.
Ginger West may be better for Mystery Boxes and Wild Bait
This place was crawling with snakes at one point. Um, slithering. Slithering with sneks.

I'm restarting the day one more time to try getting the placement right.

Edit: Third try, keeping this one as I somehow I managed to place the Totems properly. 17 Treasure Totems at Ginger Island West, finished at 3pm fwiw.

Y6Sp23 Try3.JPG

Notes:

Cosmetics different
fewer Books
more Golden Cocos!
fewer Animal Crackers
way less Bait

So a decent look at how randomness affects drops. Seems very efficient for only 17 Treasure Totems, and remember I have the Generous enchant on my Hoe, helping this along. I also have Generous on my Pan, which I'm finally using after 7 years and thousands of hours playing. The little quality of life enhancements that CA adds really keep long and repeated gameplay interesting!

Holy cow you’re turning into @FilthyGorilla 😂

I had a lot of luck in the GI quarry. Only when you’re done you have to pick axe the tilled tiles or nothing will spawn for many days.

She's way too lazy for that
The 100% correct answer.

FilthyGorilla is is often trying to do something big which requires loads of planning and effort and execution of cool glitch strategies. At best I'm trying to do something small and focused. Focused on the least amount of effort expended for a fun outcome. But I need to admit that generating the Moss and Hardwood for this Treasure Totem strategy is taking more time than I'm used to expending in-game. However because I find the end result to be loads of fun digging up all that Treasure, I'm cool with it for now.

LOL it looks like I should add my strategy for resource gathering to complete the circle!

Moss: I planted almost the entire Railroad Crossing with Pine Trees so they accumulate a little Moss every day and I'm checking 2 outta 3 days or so and it takes time to walk by and scythe everything as they are all overlapping on screen. I get about 10-25 per day. But the real problem is the temptation to check the trees around the map. This is time consuming and I don't recommend it. And yet I do it anyway as I'm passing by. Try not to get too caught up finding little bits of Moss! And yes, Green Rain day is IMO another Stardew Festival. The Summer Selebration of Scything for Fiber, the Living Hat, and MOSS. Bonus if your Statue of Blessings gives you Infinite Energy for the day because you wouldn't be using up a single drop anyway!

Hardwood:
Mahogany Trees. Secret Woods and Forest Farm are good for Stumps but a managed Forest is the real answer. I have some spots at the Train Crossing where I planted Mystic Trees for Mystic Sap (hey, no cheating and reading ahead!) but I chopped those down and went for Mahogany Trees. Mahogany Trees also grow at the Ginger Dig site and I recently decommissioned my Farm's Golden Corner and converted it into a Mahogany Forest. Most importantly you need the Mahogany Seeds to maintain your production. Luckily you get them from chopping down Mahogany Trees but you also get some from:
Artifact Spots at Ginger. Yes, the very act of plundering generates an important scarce resource to do… more plundering!

Mystic Syrup: Plant lotsa Mystic Trees and use Heavy Tappers. I have about 20 planted, most in a grove at the Train Crossing but a few at the Farm as well. As of now this is my most abundant resource of the three, which is why I chopped a few down at the Train Crossing to be replaced by the cheaper Mahogany Trees.

I'm tracking my resources but I generally get enough to do a 17 Treasure Totem run on a decent Luck day about once a week. I'd like to up that to twice a week and we'll see which resource ends up being the limitation. Moss feels like the limitation as bulk generation really isn't possible but it's early Summer and Green Rain should be imminent. I will track how much I get and figure accordingly how many totems per year I can count on from this.

I'll post here how it goes and any refinements. @LRangerR you made me do this! And it should have been done so thank you!

Edits:

1. I lowered the number of daily Moss as I'd apparently been getting pretty lucky and recently am only getting 10-20 Moss/day.
2. Now that I have both Mahogany Forests producing, I'm getting about 140 Hardwood/day which is well more than I need for Treasure Totems. Mystic Syrup is also accumulating fast, the Moss is the real constraint. Green Rain can't come fast enough (Summer 9 now).
3. I did another 17 Totem run but only got 19 Golden Cocos, worst total yet. No Unobtainum Shirts but 2 others which is always welcome. Loads of Mystery Boxes which earned 2 more Magic Rock Candys!

Forests if you're curious:

The Mermaid only visits there when it's raining, which is the only reason I check the weather in later game so I never miss her. It's one of the maps on Ginger Island you can open up when getting enough of those accursed Golden Walnuts, head right on the beach where Willy drops you off. Much respect if you haven't given in to the parrots' gatekeeping and stick to the Ginger Farm and the Volcano.
