Too Many Pumpkins!!!

I just started playing this game three days ago.

My very first crop I planted 60 melon seeds I was able to purchase from fish sales (I think it was around 4000 bucks). I sold all of those melons to Pierre for 17000. I was flabbergasted, and quite pleased at how easy it was to make all that dough compared to what I earned fishing.

So when fall came, I planted 72 pumpkin seeds. A day before they were due to ripen I got a "tip" from the TV that if one had too large a patch of melons or pumpkins, strange things would happen. And that night a fairy flew to my patch and spread fairy dust on the entire patch. The next morning I had 15 pumpkins. The other plants were alive but after a couple more days there were no pumpkins so I got rid of them.

I post this to ask a question. Is there a "safe" number of pumpkin and melon seeds I can plant before the game decides I shouldn't be able to make that much money with one crop and therefore limits the number that bear fruit?

No, you can plant as many plants as you have space for. Something must have been wrong with the watering for your pumpkins.

The "strange thing" is that a patch of 9 can turn into one large crop. You can still harvest those (with tools) and they'll yield more than 9

When a fairy shows up they "speed up" a portion of your crop. Those will be ripe early. Sometimes well over a week before they should normally.

Pumpkins take close to half a season to ripen normally. You may have been better to leave the others to ripen then sell them.

No such g making limits are in place in any part of this game. There is a fine fellow here in the Forums by the name of @FilthyGorilla who is making rather a pointed example of just how unrestricted the g making in this game really is. If you're curious about his ideas and strategies, pop the following word in that 🔍Search box above:

Thank you Lenora! So it wasn't a bad thing that happened, it was a good thing but I didn't understand. I should have kept watering them. It is good to know I can plant as many as I want. It is easier to plant a lot of one thing than to try smaller patches of many different types. Also nice to know I can make 10000 bucks by just watering 70 plants each day for a couple of weeks! :)

There is a limit actually, but it is very difficult to reach.
The 32 bit integer limit where the numbers overflow into either negatives or reset.
It's at 2.47 or so billion and getting there with any crop would be a miracle.

I'm very proud to see that I wasn't the only one who questioned this. But my first playthrough I planted I think 100 cauliflower over the spring used those profits to get even more melons, then in fall I planted a whopping 300 pumpkins. And at the time I didn't know you could upgrade tools. And I hadn't discovered iron so I couldn't get sprinklers... sooooo be glad you didn't do that haha. But hey! Fishing is a good past time when you've watered crops. Crops is much more of passive income, Fishing and mining is more active. Hope you enjoy the game as much as the rest of us!

Yikes! And I thought growing 72 was pushing it! I wonder what the limit is on how many you can water by hand before running out of energy. Part of the fun of playing for me is to try and figure things out for myself, as all the people who began playing the game when it was first released had to do. I grew two giant melons today and googled to find out you harvest them with an axe, which is what I would have ended up doing if I hadn't "cheated" to get the answer. I am enjoying the game too much so far...... I'm sleep deprived!!!

What a genius the fellow is who developed it! The creativity of how everything works and the interdependency of all the various components.

72? In my longterm farms, I'll have 3 harvests of over 200 pumpkins each fall starting at year 2!
Meh at year two I start mass producing the sweet gem berry's for ginger Island. I can't make much money but after mass harvests of other crops during spring and summer leading up I find it's nice to start a stockpile of rare seeds. But once I have ~600 then pumpkins all the way!
