Stardew Valley is a hopelessly deprived community

Wages are depressed and people are miserable.
Pam, Clint, Willy and Shane all have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
Leah and Elliot live in poor housing.
Pam and Penny live in a trailer.
There is a homeless person living on the edge of town.
There is no proper education for the children.
Joja moves out because the place is a lost cause.

Tell me I am wrong.

Hay costs 50g ea, a nice TV 4,500g, coop 34,000g, shed 35,000g, barn 43,000g, house improvements 175,000g, a new house 500,000g, town upgrades 300,000g, tool upgrades 43,000g ea., weapons and rings for over 10,000g, farm machinery for 25,000g, animals up to 8,000 to 12,000g. Townsfolk are making bags of g hand over fist.

Pam has an alcohol problem. Shane gets help with his. I don't see it with Clint and Willy, they have drinks but neither is ever soused.

Elliott and Leah live the freakin' dream! Riverfront and Beachfront property away from distracting village life, each with private live-in working studios.

I mentioned the 500,000g, Pam and Penny don't live in a Trailer for long.

Linus lives out in nature by choice and anyone claiming he's not content with his life hasn't been paying attention while playing the game.

Homeschooling is a thing and the kids are getting at least that. Also they're in second grade, not high school.

Damn right about Joja. Good Riddance.

Right and wrong are perspectives and societal constructs. I prefer to see alternative points of view, as many as possible.

The merchants all have text complaining about hardship.
Clint and Willy drink every evening - not healthy
Leah and elliott both complain about unsatisfactory accommodation.
If you buy Pam a house than fair enough - I don't like her enough to do that.
Homeschooling should be a choice made by parents - no choice here because there is no education.
Linus is Linus but he is still a bum (can I say that?)

Nobody's going out of business. Except Joja, and there's always other JojaMarts to work at.
What are Clint and Willy drinking?
I don't remember Leah complaining about her cabin. Elliott's complaints are far fewer than his appreciations. And fewer even than about his hair.
I like Pam as much as anyone else in the Valley, though none so much as The Henchman. We all have our favorites.
When you're teaching 2 or 3 children, there's no option for a school. This is why homeschooling exists but could be seen as a downside to the Valley. Or an upside-- it's what Penny and Marnie and Jodie&Kent make of it.
Linus lives life by his own terms and even Robin comes to appreciate it even though she was initially wary. Gus accepts him as he is. Just because someone chooses to eschew societal norms doesn't make them bad. Their actions determine that and I see nothing bad in Linus' behavior.

True but they are unsatisfied. What was Pierre's stash? And poor Clint...
Leah complains that her cabin is cold and she snuggles under her blanket.
Please tell me more about the The Henchman lol
The children should be being bussed off to school. I can't believe you think the Stardew Valley situation is in any way acceptable.
I don't see any bad in Linus's way of life either. Shamefully I still occasionally go through bins myself. I sometimes do it without thinking and get the horrified reaction. I have no excuse for that.

The children have one teacher per two children. A far better situation for learning than 1 per 30 or 50 kids. They also show good knowledge in the heart event. Particularly in light of their very young ages. Vincent is arguably too young for school, even.

Some of the prices are admittedly quite wild. But with all the gold we're funnelling to Clint, Robin and Pierre, they could all live in a mansion 😂

Sandy too for that matter.

Lewis, the poor guy, works his socks off. Mayor by day, and then a night shift collecting enormous amounts of farm produce, then up again at 6 o'clock. Perhaps no wonder he needs a relationship on the side.

Leah "Complains her cabin is cold" as a way to invite the farmer to snuggle. It's not misery, it's not that she hates her situation, it's that she notices one small down side of doing exactly what she wants with her life - and uses it as an excuse to pursue the next up side. If you asked her if she was unhappy, she'd look at you with annoyance or puzzlement. Remember, she doesn't forage because she's broke; she forages because she likes wild food and salads. She doesn't stop eating salad, or poking about for forage after she marries a millionaire farmer. She even brings me the occasional find!

Elliott's complaints about his cabin, and sand in his shoes, are mostly jocular and amused. I mean, who is he kidding; he PUTS that crab in his pocket when he realises the shell he picked up is still occupied, and he'll get around to putting it in the sea until the next time it comes visiting. It's like Sebastian and his frogs, except he chooses not to make a terrarium for his little friends when their home is right outside.

Willy, similarly, drinks because he enjoys a beer after a day of hard work -- and he seems pretty cheerful when I bring him coffee instead. The biggest unhappiness he expresses is balancing his need to mind the shop with his desire to fish *even more*. The first sentence also applies to Clint, though he suffers from clinical depression, too.

The town is supposed to be a bit depressed when the farmer comes - which is why most of the most-miserable dialogue for most people is in the low hearts range. Notice how many peoples' dialogue includes their whole attitude improving over time.

did you see TV program FRIENDS?
In season 1 episode 1 Monica says: The world sucks, but you are gonna love it.

Yes, Pelican Town is not a Utopia or paradise you imagined.
This is a place needs you to re-build.
The rebuilding here encompasses constructions, friendships, your fortitude and everything.

You are the role who has responsibility to build up everything to create a perfect .... sorry not a perfect but a town with amiable friends and harmony.

You can even help Pam to re-build her house or help Shane detoxes alcohol.

You are the main actor in the platform to change everything.
If everything is perfect in the beginning of the game, what is the point for you to start the adventure?

Anyway, I agree to disagree.
