Does anybody know what the hearts are for in Stardew Valley? I’ve only had the game 8 days and I’m still learning how to play? Your response is greatly appreciated!!

The hearts are a measure of how many Friendship points you have with any of the Villagers. I think each 
is 250 points and you get Friendship points by doing many things, like talking to them, giving gifts they like or love, doing Help Wanted quests for them and lots of other things. Here's more than you ever wanted to know about Hearts:

Friendship can be earned with Pelican Town's villagers. As friendships deepen, the villagers' dialogue lines become more friendly, cut-scenes called heart events occur, villagers are more likely to send gifts in the mail, and marriage is possible with one of the datable villagers.
