Stardew freezing from controller?

I'm running Stardew Valley Expanded and Aesthetic Valley Witchcraft through vortex, I play on PC with a dualshock 4 controller and It is freezing on my a lot :( I downloaded ds4 to hopefully help, but it is still happening.
I can sometimes play for hours without it happening at all, but other times it becomes unplayable.
It freezes for at least 5 minutes too
My partner plays on the same PC with all the same mods activate but only mouse and keyboard, and it doesn't not freeze for him. Plus before it freezes I normally hear a disconnect noise through the speaker, that's why I'm quite sure it's the controller causing it to happen

Does the controller do this for other games or just stardew? Also try a micro usb cable and adapter to connect the controller manually and check if it works that way. Might be a bluetooth issue or game specific one.
