Art Help Sprite Sizes? Character Sheets? [Pixel Art]

I dabble in digital art and have been trying my hand at pixel art lately- I want to try and practice drawing some ideas I've had, but I have no idea what dimensions or aspect ratio I should draw things in. Does anyone know how large the plant/animal/portrait sprites are? Or could anyone point me in the direction of detailed resources? I think if I practice enough it might be fun to consider doing some visual mods but I want to wait until I know what spatial restrictions I should be considering when I draw. I've looked some stuff up online, but so far I've only found general guidelines. Thanks so much!

your best bet is to go into the vanilla files and look.... most sprites for inventory are 16x16 pixels for one tile., but then animal sprite sheets vary.
Like chicken for instance is one 'frame' of the chicken is a 16x16 tile, but has 28 tiles to make up the animation and poses of the chicken.
Then a goat for instance is one 'frame' is 4x4 of 16x16 tiles, with 20 frames for animation and poses.

How would I look at the vanilla files? Do I need something to extract them?
