This has happened several times with my spouse Maru (in several different save files). She faces an item on the left side of the door leading upstairs, shows the (. . .) sign over her head (as if something was in her way), then runs at top speed straight forward from there, beside the stairway, out through the wall into the void, eventually runs back outside of the house (as in the screenshot), comes around and re-enters the house through the door. Then she keeps running until she comes to a stop somewhere in the house. I have never seen this happen in 1.5 but it's happened several times in 1.6. I don't know if other spouses do it. It's not harmful to the game but it is unsettling.
On the other hand, maybe that's just Maru. She likes outer space.
