See the red square? Yes. How do I get there? Like I said, I will probably feel really dumb once I know, but I have tried and tried. I've unlocked the bridge, saved the professor etc.
In the entrance level, instead of crossing the lava and entering the volcano, you water the lava to the west creating a path that, if you go far enough, you'll find an exit that leads out to there.
I just figured it out before coming to check here, it wasn't as obvious as I expected it to be.. glad for that haha I'll leave this up for others who struggled with the same.
