Why would I need to sacrifice my Tackle Slot for Sonar bobber if I can't let fish go without consuming bait and Tackle? There is literally little to no reason using this Bobber.
I suggest to delete it and add instead "Professional Angler" type book which is given by Willy when you've completed Fish Collection (with Stardrop). This Book gives permanent ability to see which fish are you reeling in.
