Slimes? I don't get it

Help me understand the allure of slimes. I dug up a red slime egg and have no idea why I should be excited about that. I see that lots of folks have slime huts and raise the things. Why?

'Cause they are funny and cute and colorful, and you can try to get all colors.

Or because you want to build everything.

I don't think they have any monetary value, and I recommend getting the ring first. Or think about a set up where they can't hurt you.

There's no point to them, they offer no financial reward for effort invested. It's just something to do. Personally I don't find them super alluring, but I always find myself getting the slime hut because I like the way it looks, especially with skull braziers outside of it. On my current playthrough where I'm RPing as a Vampire, I'll definitely be getting one. And, once you have one, you may as well fill it, right? (Red slimes this time, for sure, because it fits the theme, same reason I went for bats in the cave XD)

I’ve had 2 slime hutches over the course of 4 farms and I’m not the biggest fan. My first one was poorly set up ( no interior fencing) and no slime charmer ring. I abandoned them to their own devices. As far as I know, they established their own government and are hatching plans to take over the valley. My second one is well set up so I wouldn’t even need the slime charmer ring. I still feel meh about it. The aesthetics don’t really fit the beach farm. You can pretty much ignore it though, which is an advantage over those needy cows and chickens.

I do have a file started where I plan on becoming a slime rancher. I’m curious to see if I can find a way to enjoy raising slimes.

Lol@own government and takeover bids. Well, that certainly makes me feel better for also not wanting to indulge in this lol. Felt like a bit of a waste given where I currently am. I suppose once I get bored enough I might build a slime hutch as more the "been there, done that, (and later) novelty wore off" kind of thinking.

I completely agree. I've always assumed there were enough players who really like them (I suspect CA may be such a player himself) to justify adding them to the game. Though thankfully not to the point where a CC bundle or Perfection goal pushes them on the rest of us. I have never even considered building a slime hut, both because I see no point to raising slimes and because its appearance clashes badly with the rest of the farm buildings.

Yeah, I have one on my main farm for completionism, but I'm not particularly a big fan of them. I guess it's nice that you can now water them with sprinklers and then just not check up on them for a while.

Technically they give a small amount of money (maybe 500-1000g per day) if you take the slime from the slime balls that they produce, put it in a slime egg-press, and sell the resulting slime eggs. But if you're just looking for money, there are tons of things that will make a lot more money and take up less space on the farm.

I've seen people that want the hutches just for the sake of wanting to collect something. Some of those eggs are pretty hard to find, despite all the time you put in in the mines and skull cavern. I think some people like it for the challenge.

If your a super avid fisherman the best use is to make super mass quantities of wild bait. It's a more reliable way of getting slime for that and that alone. Any other use is kinda mediocre. This way each slime is turned into one piece of bait

If you needed a slime hutch for completion, I suppose I'd build one... but I don't get the attraction to having them either.

I got one long ago on my original farm, when there wasn't anything else to do end-game. I don't like it much for the reasons others have stated - takes up so much room, doesn't fit aesthetically with the rest of the farm, and not super-interesting or profitable.

I hatch them in town and they multiply like crazy. They talk to the villagers and complain to me when I look through a trash can. (Umm...you're a slime, I don't think they have the right to judge. LOL) I think they are funny. I hatch them in the house and my spouse is always reacting to them and making funny comments. Just make sure you wear the slime charmer ring at all times. However, I currently have one stuck under my house and I can't reach it with a sword although I may try hitting it with a slingshot.

I'll probably get a slime hutch in a later save just for the sake of doing it but my river farm just doesn't have the room.

Honestly, this just sounds like fun. I'll have to look for how you get or make the Slime Charmer Ring and when I get/make one, I'll try to repopulate the Valley with slimes as they seem to have more personality than some of the townies. I haven't been interested up 'til now as the slime ROI is, um, zero? But the opportunity to annoy in an amusing way may just get me over that monumental activation energy.

Having a slime hutch is one of the few things I haven't done. So, I guess that means I am getting one my next game, lol.

Once you get the slime charmer ring, put a sprinkler down (to feed them) and get the max amount of slimes, (I think it's 20), it's just another bit to add to the income.

It's expensive to make and takes ages to setup but it's basically just a version of the barn or coop where you don't have to feed them hay or anything.

Most people just have it for the cool factor and it would probably take about a year or two to actually pay off but it is effortless afterwards besides the collection. (Also very satisfying to pop their goop! (Don't take that out of context))

Kill 1,000 slimes and you become their god. Or get the slime charmer ring from Gil. It’s one of those.

So I do need one for 100% completion?
