Beach Farm Sharknado hits Furious Fish Farm

"Simple" fresh start focused around mass fish ponds strategy as well as testing a few other "strategies" like opening the desert for the Desert Festival year 1. The log below will contain some tips, strategies, leeks.

Theoretical design:
layout.png

A fish pond takes 5000 gold, 200 stone, 5 algae, and 5 seaweed. Stone could be elevator-farmed or level-1 farmed in the mines, resetting the floor until 2x2 stone spawns to break it. Spring would be lake/river fishing, so it stashes algae, then summer could be oceanic fishing (bait maker makes lake sturgeon better until super cucumber comes out) so that covers seaweed for lots of ponds after that. Fishing at minimum would give 5K+ gold each day, so it can pay to build them.

Legendary fish can be dumped into a pond, and it's done. Other fish will request items at a selected population size. For lava eels, you should have a crystalarium on basalt, a stack of fire quartz (or crystalariums even), and then farm a dwarf scroll if they ask for it ;) Ice Pip or Stonefish roe is worth less, but quests can be much easier to do, and you can get bonus geodes. To process roe, you will need preserve jars, which will use a lot of coal, so the riverlands farm with a fish smoker may not be the best pick (same for any early mass sprinkler setup) ;)

Full details on ponds: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Fish_Pond

So you can put a few ponds with Lava Eels for income, but also for spicy eel. It's a good pick, but as mentioned will take a lot of time and resources to scale the ponds. You can put other geode giving fish in, but overall, the % to get something will be low. You build 10 ponds, and there can be less than 50% that produce anything daily. Best % and items are at 9-10 population.

Agend Legend Roe sells for 7084 with artisan, and the pond has ~20% to produce 1-2 roe, so it's not that awesome (but doesn't require many jars). Caviar from Sturgeons sells for 700, which is less than, for example, melon jelly. Starfruit or ancient fruit jelly sells for more than aged lava eel roe - so those fish ponds aren't primary money makers, they can be in the late game when you get clones of the legends.

Corals in a pond don't produce roe and have a small chance of producing one of 2 minerals, which you may be missing from the museum collection early on (and they don't have population quest so handy temporary use of a fish pond):

coral2.png

Super cucumber at max population has a smaller chance to give iridium ore or amethyst. You can get a lot of iridium from Skull Cavern, so this isn't an alternative to mining.

Also, with the book additions in 1.6, you can get fish roe as you catch them, so it's possible to get sturgeon roe without a fish pond and thus have caviar for the missing bundle.

Now, for the spring daily log:

Challenge: no seed buying, no sprinklers, try to unlock the desert before the Desert Festival on the 15th of Spring. Joja run ;)

Day 1: farm clearing, planting parsnips, spring onions, and level 1 of foraging.

Re-arranging the home for quick access:

Clearing fiber:

Early gift:

You can talk to only selected villagers to increase the odds they will post on the delivery board, allowing you to progress their relationship quickly.

Day 2:

Day ~1 mixed seeds are probably worth using, and if you get all the bundle crops possible, you will have to buy only green beans. Later on, mixed seeds are worth stashing for crafting (fiber seeds) or ginger island to get pineapples. Having more than 15 crops can trigger crows.

The first artifact is bonus gold from the turn-in, but it also changes fishing treasure chests. Before most artifacts that could show up in a treasure chest will be replaced with coal, so for like Riverlands farm, it may be beneficial to avoid finding an artifact early on. You won't get a Dino egg or alike, but you should get more coal...

Fishing:
  • Day 2: Willy's quest to catch 2 smallmouth bass, so before going to the lake, I fished in the city river. The late night 2 bubbles - they lower the bite time so more fish, more exp, more gold. You should aim at whatever bubbles you can reach, even if it's in less valuable waters. Later on, when pulling iridium quality fish, you may avoid bubbles close to shore.
  • Day 3: As I didn't buy any seeds and got gold from the museum, Willy quest, and fish, I was able to buy a fiberglass rod and bait! A magnet ring and a diamond from a fishing treasure chest! Fishing level 5! I was fishing at the lake instead of pushing catfish at a lower fishing level.
  • Day 4: best luck day - more treasure chests. Robin wants a Joja cola. 7844 gold from all stashed and current fish and diamonds.
  • Day 5: CC cutscene and going mining for some copper to make the furnace and 5-10 copper bars (pickaxe insta-upgrade to then axe upgrade). No fishing.
prize_ticket.png

Getting 2 tickets from the bulletin board will unlock mystery boxes (instead of waiting 50 days). If you can do the quests, then do them, as bonus loot boxes are always nice.

  • Day 6: Marnie wants seaweed. Fishing at the lake while making copper bars from day-5 ore and treasure chest drops (over 60 ore and 1 furnace for now)
  • Day 7: Lewis got a golden potato I got from mixed seeds. More fishing.
  • Day 8: raining, going catfishing; Linus wants Joja cola. 9963 gold for the day.
seed.png

  • Day 9: watering carrots from the prize ticket seeds, lake fishing, and ore smelting. Demetrius showed up for the cave - fruit cave is good for CC, and loved gifts chance, mushrooms give dehydrator, which can have its use cases.
  • Day 10: Gus wants a gold bar, RIP on that one (3 ore from treasure chests); 5219 gold from lake fishing.
  • Day 11: rain fishing - 7517 gold
  • Day 12: pickaxe copper upgrade (was supposed to do that way earlier). Level 10 fishing - angler for max profits, pirate for more fun, and when trying to do the museum quicker. 7946 gold for the day
  • Day 12/13: Crops faerie shows up and hits planted rice :)

Day 14: getting the copper axe, hitting the mines to finish the bug eradication goal, to get a good weapon:

If you did not get a weapon from a fishing treasure chest, I strongly advise going for every easy bug kill you can see. 80 bugs to get a really strong sword that will last through the entire mines.

I probably should have cut the first day at the desert short to finish this ;)

Desert Festival here we come:

  • Day 15: Clint wants iron ore, and the festival starts. Race won, fishing quest done, questions won. Level 21 of the Skull cavern reached (with a copper axe and a level 2 club :P)
  • Day 16: bought treasure troves from the George store ;)
  • Day 17: bit more luck in Skull Cavern (orange sampling on level 25 treasure); Deluxe speed grow from Demethrius store, rest of eggs on mystery boxes (Foraging skill book overall best progression item if you farm a lot of eggs)

You can enter Skull Cavern during the festival even without the key. On top of that, as you didn't reach the last floor of the mines, the monsters won't get the buff, so they will be a bit weaker.

Unsure if early desert is worth it. Lots of gold that you don't use on tool upgrades and alike, unless you can really pull good cavern runs, and then use starfruit in summer instead of just blueberries.

  • Day 18: Pam got a gold quality parsnip :) Copper axe upgrade; prismatic shard from Omni Geode (Desert Festival payoff?). Linus gets a coconut :)
  • Day 19: Fishing, doing some quests, giving gifts
  • Day 20: Carolyn tea bush cutscene; Shane may or may not have gotten beer from me...
  • Day 23: Treasure chest from fishing treasure chest :)
"Calculated" faerie managed not to miss an ancient seed:
faerie.png

I like to go for big chests early - that way, 3 chests and a workshop work nicely (one for resources, one for plant/seed things, one for fishing things) plus a normal chest for tools and things I want to preserve like a giftable higher quality forge.

Summer was mostly building fish ponds, getting another treasure chest ;) and upgrading tools to gold. Bait maker sturgeon/super cucumber daily quantities test to be done (lots of coal would be needed for fish smoker, but also nice profits). I did a backup save in the summer just to force-progress ponds into late fall to see what they will produce, and as you can see that woodskip or super cucumber aren't that great, but it looks kind of cool, I guess :D

Other fresh-start run in the making - maxing out on hardwood/moss for mushroom logs ;)

You caught the LEGEND spring yr 1????
also, seems like your doing quite well, I'm not great at fishing, and the legend roe is extremely valuable

It's doable if you know what you are doing and have a late spring rainy day. But it's something not doable blindly ;)
Nice, if you age it and get the artisan profession, the aged roe is worth around 7k g, which is just incredible, I know you probably know what you're doing, just trying to help
