Screen Brightness

Ion

Greenhorn
I recently started playing the game on Android and I'm really enjoying it.

I would personally find a setting that reduces the change in lighting extremely helpful.

Because of eye strain and migraine triggers I have to use screens on very low brightness. In the game at nighttime and in the mines that becomes too dim to see and I end up adjusting my device brightness a lot and usually causing eye strain along the way.

I'm not sure how many other players this issue applies to. Maybe it's rare, or maybe there are different challenges that share the same solution.

Thank you for a great game and for considering the suggestion

Certain levels of the mines can definitely get dark, I'd recommend crafting some torches to place down for those levels until you get one of the glow rings :)

I believe that what Ion is looking for is a setting that would reduce the overall swing in the brightness (think in terms of lumens) that the game does on its own. This would allow them and other users to more comfortably play this awesome game. Perhaps using colouring difference instead to give the same game feed back with out having to adjust their screen brightness. Users with visual concerns are common: sensitivity to bright lights, flashing lights, colour blindness, zoom levels, ect. I believe this to be a UI/UX request.

I have a glow ring already, but even before that the unlit levels of the mines weren't really the issue. The lit levels of the mines and any location at dusk are better examples.

I'll try to explain with some made-up numbers. Because of my less-standard vision I need to keep my brightness between 2 and 4. Every day in the game the brightness varies between 1 and 10.

I do what I can on my end to compensate. Changing my device brightness every few minutes is still the most helpful thing I've tried, but it's a challenge to stay on top of it and to be precise enough when changing it so frequently. A setting for a smaller brightness range in the game would be enormously helpful.

There might not be enough people affected by something like this to justify the dev time, but the game makers won't know how many players need/want a feature unless they get feedback. I just want to be counted as one person on that list.

That's absolutely fair! I just wanted to make sure you were using all the game's mechanics to offset this, but although I don't have this issue in Stardew, I do find the default brightness in Minecraft far too dark and I appreciate the slider there. It's always good for games to give people settings :)
