Resolved:Modded stardew has stopped responding to my wireless controller even though it’s working with other games

Admittedly a strange issue, my game has suddenly stopped responding to my wireless controller even though device manager says it’s working fine and it still works with my other steam games. (I've included some extra details for context which may or may not be relevant, but have recently realized that there were errors in my smapi log about console commands not loading, so that's probably the most relevant information, feel free to scroll to the bottom to read it.)

Been having technical issues in general since a couple weeks ago when I updated a ton of mods and my game stopped working properly. I downgraded all the mods I could by one update to be safe and, most crucially, downgraded Smapi, which seemed to solve the problem. In the interest of troubleshooting I've reverted back to the most recent version for my Smapi log, which doesn't seem to have had an impact on the error I'm experiencing.

It’s been working fine for weeks and then suddenly out of nowhere the game stopped responding to the controller. At first it was responding, but the screen wasn’t responding as I tried to adjust from windowed to fullscreen after idling for a while, then suddenly the game stopped responding to the controller altogether.

Obviously I’ve tried restarting the game and the computer multiple times. Strangely, even when I started a new mod profile in vortex and loaded the game with every mod disabled (although for some reason it still seemed to try to load a few) I continued to have the same issue. The weird thing is that I hadn’t tweaked anything in weeks when the controller suddenly stopped responding, so I have no idea how to even troubleshoot this.

I realize this is a strange issue and it doesn’t seem like it should be related to modding, but because this is the only game that was affected and windows device manager says the controller is working it seems like it must be related to Smapi somehow. Any advice would be welcome, I’m really hoping to get past this grueling technical difficulty phase of enjoying my favorite game.

Smapi log from the most basic profile with (supposedly) no mods:

SMAPI log parser - SMAPI.io

Oddly there was some stuff in the Smapi log that didn't seem to show up in the log parser about difficulties with console commands, which seems relevant here. Thus I've decided to post the whole thing here because it seems the only bit that might be relevant: I quit at the loading screen so it's not crazy long.

Thanks for reading!

Edit: found this forum and tried the solves but still having issues.

did the settings in steam thing, opened the command console in game and tried to press the controller button but nothing happened- the game knew it was connected though because when the controller connection timed out the button became grey.

The long form instructions I didn’t do because it seemed too advanced and also I don’t have a Mac, I’m working on a pc. I really can’t be trusted to mess with complicated code stuff I was barely able to figure out mods in the first place.

if anyone knows what I need to do please tell me, getting really sick of my favorite stress reliever becoming a new source of stress 🫠

Btw the controller brand I’m using is gamesir but windows seems to recognize it as an Xbox controller. Not sure if buying a more expensive controller would solve the problem but I’m pretty strapped for cash at the moment so I’m hoping to avoid that method if possible.
Thank you.

Turns out game pad mode in the settings had been switched to force off. No idea how that happened in the middle of a save, didn’t even know you could do that. Almost just dropped $70 on a new controller. Wild!
