Remove racial slur

The name of the ring obtained from killing 150 void spirits has a racial slur used against Native Americans. The word is triggering for many of us and it makes me deeply uncomfortable to see it in-game. It should be replaced with a different word

Why? The word savage has no roots in Native American heritage, and comes from mostly English but also has roots in ancient French and Latin.

To me it feels like you are choosing to be insulted. Please, next time you choose to accuse CA of putting a racial slur into his game, do your research first. He has always been very kind and thoughtful to all parties involved.

While it's a shame you find the word upsetting, it isn't the same as most other racial slurs (such as the G-word for Romani; N-word for African-Americans; S-word for Puerto Ricans/Hispanics; C-word for Chinese/Asians) as it has not been used eclusively to dehumanize/oppress/insult a specific race. The word has over twenty definitions, used before during and after the use you're referring to, that are far more common. It's not unreasonable to request an aternative, but it is a little unreasonable to assume (and directy state) it's being used as a racial slur in the context it's used in the game.

Have you told Rihanna about this?
Savage originates from the Middle Ages, which ended around 1400 depending on who you ask--before the European discovery of the Americas. This is what the dictionary states for historical etymology: 'Middle English: from Old French sauvage ‘wild’, from Latin silvaticus ‘of the woods’, from silva ‘a wood’'
I will give it to you that in movies like Pocahontas and a slew of old westerns, the indigenous peoples were referred to as 'savages,' but it has never been used specifically as a slur, I can think of two off the top of my head that were unfortunately used with malice towards Native Americans across the US and Canada that have thankfully fallen out of common vernacular for the most part. There's a book I love called Brave New World in which they refer to those who live outside of the 'utopia' as The Savages, but they're folks of all stripes who stuck to the old-world standard of living of the early 1900s, much like a lot of the modern people who populate the rural region of north-central Nebraska where I was born and raised, and the beautiful thing about that book is that the 'savages' are protagonists.

I think we must be respectful to this individual as well. Maybe it wasn’t CA’s intention to hurt anyone, and I don’t think it was at all, but we all have words that have been used negatively toward us or those we love that are triggering. I’m very white, but have been bullied beyond belief and called all sorts of things that would not trigger most of my race. But to me, to this day are triggering and some have trauma attached. This is a suggestions forum. Maybe CA never considered this word before, and now he might for future updates. He’s a great designer, one of the best of his field, but we are all imperfect. For me the greatest trigger of the whole game is Mr Qi cause he reminds me of my childhood growing up. Most people are indifferent towards him. Some like him, some dislike him. For me, especially the new Easter egg summit scene if you cheat is downright traumatizing to me. I will never forget the feelings it stirred in me and how much more I can’t stand his character and I’m disappointed with CA for that scene. It’s too much for those of us who grew up in perfectionistic families. He could have had the henchman from the witches hut guard the rock instead. But no. You get knocked out by none other than Mr Qi. Traumatizing. Pure Traumatizing and only to those of use who come from like backgrounds and truly understand that fear of punishment. We all have triggers. Please let this individual voice their concerns without jumping down their throats for questioning why CA chose to do something or not. He’s a great developer, but a human being and imperfect like we all are. Maybe reflecting on this persons post will help him make different choices of development in the future. Just saying…
