Reeling in a fish Touch Screen

Im @ my wits END

Catching a fish is hard BUT reeling it in using on an iPad touch screen is impossible.

I’ve only been playing the game a short time, to give you an idea of how far I am is I’ve only just met the wizard.

I obviously need a controller but for the mean time if anyone knows a way of catching a fish please using a touch screen can you reply!

Thank you

Adele xx

I play on my phone and ipad, and enjoy fishing. You have to tap gently to control your catch bar. To move the bar higher, use swift small taps. To let the bar move lower, use slower soft taps. If you press & hold, the catch bar slams to the top. If you stop tapping, it slams to the bottom.
It gets easier as you level up, and you level up even if you just catch trash. Carp in the mountain lake are very easy to catch since they stay at the bottom or rise very slowly.

A lot of people also complain about fishing even if they're playing on a PC or a console and not on a touchscreen. It's just hard to get the timing right for the tapping. Once you get the hang of it, it gets easier.

I play on both PC and phone and I am equally good (or bad) at fishing.

Apart from what was already said about tapping quickly and slowly, fishing gets easier as you level up. If you don't have it already, Willy sells a training rod for only 25G. It makes your green bar bigger, but you can't get quality fish and only the easier fish will bite. I usually use it to level 4 or 5 (the bar size is level 5).

Try fishing at the lake in the mountains for some of the easiest fish in the game, which gives you experience to level up. Carps can be caught without moving the bar at all and chub are easy to follow.

I bought almost all the fish I needed on my first playthrough, so by all means, skip fishing for now and come back to it later (or never, never is a great option). I would still rather buy fish than catch them myself, although I have gotten a lot better. I definitely recommend the training rod, fish ponds, and crab pots. You can also find fish in trash cans.

I haven’t upgraded my fishing rod yet, with so many things to do such as tool upgrade, kitchen. This week I seem to have relaxed more, With only15 minutes in the day Im literally fire fighting & achieving nothing.
I seem to have a good collection of gold & silver star vegetables I did start giving these out as a gifts!
Imagine in real life giving your date a leak or a turnip 😂 No wonder I received their disapproval then to top it of I handed over an empty blue tin from the refuge

I may as well go hang myself for my stupidity!
Thank you for your help x

I haven’t seen the price of fish yet but my messily 2000 coins would just about buy me a tin of Tuna

The training rod is not really an upgrade, it's an aid for beginner fishers. It's really cheap, go pick it up the next time you're at the beach.

Don't worry about the time, it feels like you get nothing done in the beginning but that gets better as you advance. Pick one activity to do each day after you watered your crops and stick to that.

Don’t certain fish need catching in the spring? 🐬🐳🐋🐠
Yes, but there will be spring every year ;) you can't really miss anything in this game, it'll all come back around next year.

There are no spring-only fish (apart from one that you can only catch at level 10, which you are extremely unlikely to get in year 1 on a first playthrough).
Also, yeah, spring comes back every year

And I also highly recommend the training rod, it's super cheap, it makes your fishing bar bigger when you are below level 4, and it only lets you hook easier fish (which is probably a good thing when learning). Only downside is it prevents you from getting silver/gold quality.

+1 to training rod. I couldn‘t get the hang of fishing with the bamboo rod. The training rod made the challenge workable so I could get the feel of it. Some people will get the training rod and just fish for a few days, quickly getting the XP to go to level 4 or 5 and then switch to another rod that can catch all the different fish.
