I got soft-locked with the racoon dude. I had already given him one of the items he wanted, but when I went to give x5 mussels to the racoon, I only had 2 in my inventory (forgotten them in a chest). Because I didn't have enough, I wasn't able to place any in the slot. However, I also wasn't able to deselect the mussels I had accidentally clicked on, and was thus unable to exit out of the screen. I had to turn off the Switch and restart the day, which wasn't a huge loss. But I just thought I'd flag this in case anyone else encountered the same or a similar issue.
