Question about marriage on multiplayer

I have been playing Stardew on iOS and am about to get it for Switch. So excited! I do have a question about marriage on multiplayer though.

My understanding is that you can start a single player farm, and then host others on that farm. If I chose to do this and built a cabin for my boyfriend and married him in multiplayer, what happens when I go back to playing single player? Will his character still be on my farm if we are married, even when I'm playing alone? Or will I have two different save files for the same farm, one in multiplayer and one in single player? He realistically will not be playing with me as much as I'll be playing on my own, so debating on whether or not to marry his character in multiplayer on my primary farm, or if I should marry a NPC and make an auxiliary farm to use for multiplayer.

Thanks!

Hi Noelle and Welcome to the Forums!

As MogBeoulve said, he won't be there when you're not playing together but the game proceeds otherwise as a regular single-person save.

That said, one big difference between when you play together vs single-player is that with only you there, you will be able to freeze time in the inventory and other menus. However in Multiplayer, there is no time freezing. If you haven't played multiplayer before and are used to using the time-freezing to your advantage, that will come as a noticeable change to gameplay. The days go soooo fast!

Additionally, many quests are done only once (for instance there's just the one Community Center to restore), so you may want to wait for your boyfriend to do certain things if you want him to see or experience them together.

Thank you both! That’s very helpful and exactly what I needed to know. Looks like I’ll be happiest to marry an NPC for my primary farm and have an extra farm for when I play multiplayer with him. I’m not doing all that work on my own.
