Question about 1.5 update [Spoilers]

Are scarecrows necessary on the ginger island farm? I haven't seen any crows on the farm.

I completely forgot for a while... then I panicked, put two out there to cover what I had. I hadn't lost anything. Maybe I was lucky? I haven't checked to see if they've scared anything off. I also don't know if that's intended behavior, just like how Botanist doesn't work on Ginger Island.
