Preventing 1.6 update on IOS.

This is not intended as a criticism thread. I do not wish any of that. I mean no disrespect to the 1.6 update or its creator CA. This is based on my own personal preference suited for my own mental well being. Most aspects of the update are great, and I’d love to enjoy it, but I simply can’t. It has a whole new underlying theme of perfectionism based on the one and only character in the game I can’t stand. Mr. Qi, even grandpa with him to an extent. It reminds me of my past nd my perfectionist mentality I was expected to grow up in that continues even to this day to an extent. The scene where Mr Qi beats you up if you reach perfectionism through a glitch was the final straw. It is horrible and downright terrifying to me who grew up like this. I can’t bear it in a video game I’m supposed to find escape from the realities of life in. I was saddened when I saw this trend of perfectionism continuing in a whole new way and being rewarded for it with special powers, enchantments, and other “blessings” even. I’m sure I’m not the only one who grew up within this mindset, and is still judged on it to this day. I can’t do it anymore than I have to deal with in 1.5. (I’d gladly revert to 1.4 if only it were possible!) or I won’t be able to enjoy the rest of the game that is a joy and pleasure to play. Can I prevent its future update on mobile iOS that is likely to release later this year? WITHOUT it preventing updates to my iPad software or other apps? Does anyone know how to do this. Please no one criticize me for this decision, it’s one I have to make for my mental health and well being. Also if anyone knows where I can get a copy of 1.4 for mobile or switch please let me know! Thanks.

Sure I do this all the time on my iDevices, just don't update it. I do it from laziness as if an app is working then I can't be bothered to update. But if you don't like to keep apps lingering and prefer to hit the Update All option, then you're somewhat likely going to make a mistake and update SDV by accident. This is a behavior thing.

However!

You can continue to play Stardew Valley exactly the same way you always have with the current version. I'm not playing it any different. I've never felt any pressure for any kind of perfectionism in the game as that's not how I play any game. 100%ing any game gets tedious and boring. I play the stuffs I like and skip the rest. For instance I have never Forged a weapon in v1.5 Stardew Valley yet there are lots of threads here about how to do that and what works best for people. Loads of people love it and I'll do it some time.

Meh. Maybe later.

You can still play the game any way you want and you should feel no pressure to change your playstyle. This update is to give the game more flavor and variety and I think that's a very good thing. There are different fun things from the first day you play. That's great!

Don't let other people's playstyles change how you like the game. Play it your way.

Thanks @Lew Zealand this means a lot to me. So are there new things in the game that are good without being judged and this perfectionism crap? I mean no disrespect to to those who like the challenge, it’s just traumatizing to me it really is. It’s not easy growing up as a Colonel’s daughter.

I did a perfection save in 1.5. One and Done. I don't ever want to have to craft a bunch of stuff I don't want or spend hours in the Skull Mines chasing down that last pepper rex again.

The only payoff I would do it for at this point is the opportunity to kick Qi out of Stardew Valley, Pelican Township, the Fern Islands, and the greater Zuzu City metropolitan area.

If you have switch...do you play from cartridge? you could try trying to get the original cartridge off ebay. or somewhere .as I think that came out before the 1.5 update? ..but I'm not sure ...put switch in airplane mode before you nsert cartridge and start a new game...though if you already have a save from buying it on digital you will have to delete the digital copy first.

I guess you could copy your save from switch to a PC first but if you transferred it back and had updated to 1.5 then it might tell you it needs an update to play ..I'm not sure though I've never tried to copy a save to a PC then back again. also as soon as you went online ..say if you wanted to purchase a different game it would update. unless you got another switch kept it offline, dont link it to your account and only played it from the cartridge??

I'm trying to remember as I had the original cartridge but lost it so downloaded digital version it played my save file but updated it to 1.5 at the time.

Dear @ArtifactSpot

As Lew said, you can prevent update 1.6 from applying on your iDevice by disabling auto update and then update manually all your apps, but Stardew Valley.

But, the good news is that I believe you can safely install update 1.6.

One of the (many, many) reasons I like ConcernedApe is that he does not force new content down our throat. Currently, you can play update 1.5 as if you still were playing 1.4 : you have no obligation to use the new board nor go to Ginger Island. Even if you want to go to the Island, you can completely ignore Qi's Walnut Room, or if you really want some of the rewards from this room (and I doubt it since you want to downgrade), you can ignore the perfection tracker. You can still play as before without doing perfection. Said differently: skipping most of 1.5 content doesn't break the game experience you had in update 1.4 because this content is designed to build on top of the existing content, not as a replacement.

From what I saw from my short play through update 1.6, this is the same with the new content: you can skip most of it, if not all of it.

Moreover, aside from hiding mystery boxes (which act the same than geodes or artifact troves), Mr Qi is not seen in 1.6 content.
The new perfection path you are referring to, is related to Grandpa alone. This mastery way works differently than Qi's perfection tracker. In the later, you have many different objectives to reach, some of which you would probably never have done otherwise (like cooking all recipes or crafting all items).

In the new mastery, progress is made by... playing the game as usual. You only need to get experience for all the basic skills (farming, foraging, fishing...) in order to unlock the rewards. This means that if you play normally long enough, you will unlock all rewards without ever trying and you can still completely ignore this new tracker and play other new content from 1.6 instead (and there are plenty of it)

Quoting myself here because I had a perfect example of this a few minutes ago. I was doing a quest during the new festival and I got a message that I reached one of the milestone of the mastery tracker. As I said: one can make progress on mastery without even trying, simply by playing the game as usual. And once I got this message, I had absolutely no obligation to go grab the reward where the tracker is located. I can ignore it forever if I want and play the game as usual.

A more personal message for @ArtifactSpot : like you, I'm usually very suspicious about new content/updates for games I like, because I fear they may break the game experience I enjoy so much. I was very eager for update 1.6 to be released, but when I first played it, I felt a bit of overwhelmed by all the new additions and changes in the game (new items, resources, quests and such...), those implied that I had to change many playing routines that I had setup for 1.5 and redo part of existing farms. But after playing a bit more, this feeling fade away (mostly because most of the new content is optional and most of the time, nicely fits into existing game) and the new content slowly grew into me. The same happened with update 1.5 and update 1.4 before.

I'm not trying to convince you to install update 1.6, but I believe that if you focus on Mr. Qi or the Mastery system from update 1.6, you may not have the complete picture, so I'm sharing my own experience here.
