Creator Response Polluted waters blocks only fishing action, or also movement.

Unique situation in our game where a player needed 1 more wood before going to robin's to construct a building. She had a spring onion card which allowed them an extra turn and she wanted to use it to start at the forest, grab wood on the way to the farm, and then travel to robin's.

The catch is that we had polluted waters placed in the forest at the start of that turn... Would that disallow placing your pawn on the river fishing action to start your turn? Or is it allowed as long as you don't actually fish.

P.S. Does the spouse pawn stay with the person who gifted the pendant or get transfered to the "active player" who has the pet. For example, in a 2 player game the active player is not the one who gifted the pendant to an eligible friend.... The spouse can take their turn either between each players turn or at the end, but not before the first players turn?

You can start the turn at (or move to) a location without legal actions. In that case, you can use an Item/Profession that requires you to spend an action, or "waste" an action.

Note that the Spring Onion only allows for an extra action, but not an extra move. There's other options to move more than 1 space though (e.g. Joja Cola, Horse, Minecarts)

The Mermaid Pendant stays with the villager it was given to, which by extension means it generally sticks with the player who married. I'm not 100% positive about the interaction with redistributing / losing friends though (there are effects that can do that), maybe @Colito knows better?

I suspected as much with the spouse pawn, thanks.

You can spend an action via item/profession when at a location with no legal actions?

Or

You must spend a special action in order to visit a location with no legal actions?

The action with no movement seems counterintuitive. We understood the action phase as choosing where you'd like to take an action, with the next action being available in the same location or a single path away. Upon re reading the instructions it seems you are correct that the creator gives 2 different options for the action phase with one path movement or no movement. We might just keep playing that part incorrectly because it is easier for us to understand and teach new players our way.

The former. IMO idling is a legal action in any location, especially since it is very possible for you to end up with no legal actions at a given location despite that being available during planning (e.g. another player loses gold in the Mines so you no longer have the money to buy an animal from Marnie where you started your turn, or the Fish track became empty before your turn at the river/ocean fishing spot came around).

If it makes it easier for you, you may certainly house-rule that part.

"You can spend an action via item/profession when at a location with no legal actions?" This is the correct answer.
