Honestly Minecraft has been teasing an End update for over 5 years now, to some indeterminate end.
CA has officially announced 1.7, but it's also a community that (not always but hopefully now) that'll wait knowing that he'll eventually deliver on all his words, as opposed to the very charged minecraft community which is also often comprised of a younger audience that lacks the same patience when it comes to such thing.
Honestly? I'd have to put my vote with a potential end update - however small - coming out first, I think the 'update drop' system allows for something small to be added quickly compared to big updates every year or two
