Switch Please Help! Multiplayer, Axe is stuck in the blacksmith shop after several in game days have passed

I made a new farm on the switch version of the game and made a new character for my boyfriend in fall year 1. We have been upgrading tools at the same time with no issue, but my boyfriend gave his copper axe to Clint and several in game days have gone by but it isn’t finished. I have upgraded multiple tools while we’ve been waiting and had no issue. We can’t get a replacement axe because the game doesn’t register the item as missing, but Clint won’t give it back so my boyfriend is stuck without an axe. Does anyone know how I could possibly solve this issue? I made an account just to ask this question so I would really appreciate the help lol, thank you!

Hello Issyv! Glad you two are enjoying Stardew.

Has your boyfriend been playing with you while Clint has been working? I know this is necessary if they upgrade their Cabin at Robin, and I don't know why it wouldn't apply to tools as well.

I'm also fairly certain that you could build another Cabin, have your boyfriend join in with a new character, put that farmer's Axe in a chest, and never use that farmer again (your boyfriend could go back to their old farmer). Obviously it wouldn't be upgraded, though.

Yes, I played a few days without him so we expected it to be done when he started playing again, then we played several days together. He checked with Clint everyday and he still says he’s working on it :( But thanks for the tip! I think we will have to do that, I looked all over google and couldn’t find anyone else with this problem lol.

yes this also happened to us but on pc. the same thing I was upgrading my pickaxe, then the other day IRL my friend was playing and I joined the next day my pickaxe was still in clint already a few days passed in-game still can't be picked up
