Please Add Polyamory Addition to Vanilla Stardew

I was looking to see if polyamory was able to be a thing in this game, and I found that it doesn't really exist in a genuine way. I think polyamory should be added into the game where you can have multiple marriages.
I think it's sort of odd you can have everyone bf &/or gf, but only when you get all 5 Bachelorettes or Bachelors does a unique cutscene occur where you are basically found out to have cheated on your partners, and then nothing really happens.
Why can't we become partners (and later spouses) with multiple people at the same time in a consensual manner? I know this likely isn't a new idea because I've seen mods for it, but I play on Switch, and I don' have the option to mod.

Next request then is to be able to seduce non marriage NPCs?

I personally like the way it is as you have higher replayability. And actually you already can "cycle" through the candidates with marriage each and divorce.
There is also an easteregg when date all candidates at the same time...

In my eyes SDV is about choice (what to do first, what to skip for a day etc.), so it makes sense to choose also with the bachelorettes or bachelors.

That’s an interesting idea! Stardew Valley thrives on relationship depth, so polyamory could add more inclusive storytelling. It reminds me of how new platforms like https://casino-ellada.gr/nea-casino/ adapt to diverse audiences by expanding choices and flexibility. Games evolve with their players, and this feature would be a meaningful step forward.

I agree.

I do not get this polyamory stuff. It’s just like polygamy but there are all multiple men and women all married and sharing a bed, instead of one man and multiple wives. Polygamy is still illegal in the US, why this is any different is beyond me. I’m glad just 2 spouses are in the game, especially when children enter the picture. I vote a big fat no on this one. Please keep it as is.

I like the idea. There's already same-sex mariage and like Freizeitfarmer said, it's all about choice. I like that polyamory could be a choice. I'm just concerned about the logistics of it all. It would be no doubt that you'd love all your spouses, but would all the spouses share the same affinities between each other ? And the more spouse you have, the trickier it gets. But there's also the simplest approach where all the spouses don't mind at all. After all, since we can date any candidate no matter their gender and yours, they are all technically bi to begin with. Making them technically polyamorous isn't that big of a stretch when you think about it.

But at least, we can date them all. But yeah, I don't like the "they all realize you've been cheating on them" cutscene. It's just so sad when you're all about the good vibes and love. Thankfully, a better version exists if you have a rabbit foot in your inventory when the cutscene triggers.

stardew_luv : Just because you don't unterstand something or that it doesn't fit your lifestyle doesn't mean you have to be so vehement about it and that those concerned souldn't benefit it.

I thought my post was tasteful. I wasn’t condemning any person in particular, simply saying I didn’t like the idea and why I dislike it and putting my vote as a big no for this a a future suggestion. Since this is the suggestions forum, we are allowed to vote against a suggestion and state why in polite terms and I think I was polite enough. They do sometimes count how many people would like a suggestion to be implemented and I stated no I don’t wish for this to be in the next update. If I wasnt nice enough I do apologize for not being polite but not for voting against this being added in a future game update.

Big big agree on this. What I will say is that it can get a bit complicated coding polyamory/ethical nonmonogamy, from a game dev perspective. With one partner you only have to worry about the logistics of person A and person B interacting with each other. But if you also have C as well, how do both A and B interact with them? Is it a V relationship (A is romantically with B and C, but B and C are not), or a triad (A is with B and C, B is with A and C, C is with A and B)? Do you go with one or the other, or allow the player to choose? Do you have separate events for if you get with B and then C, or C and then B, or both at the same time? Are there separate events for being with B or C in a mono relationship/B or C in a poly relationship/B and C in a poly relationship? Is there still an option for infidelity alongside an option for ethical monogamy and ethical polyamory, in case someone wants to play as a more morally dubious farmer?

I say this all as a poly person who knows the struggles of coding poly lol. There’s a difference between “player dates multiple people” and “player is in a polyamorous relationship”. It’s subtle, but it makes a big difference in poly rep feeling like everyone is in agreement on the poly, ya know? And this isn’t to say that it isn’t possible! Hades is a really good example of allowing the player to choose either monogamous romance or polyamorous romance (or no romance!) Without spoiling too much, I think its portrayal of relationships in this regard is really nuanced in a way I don’t see in a lot of games.

I think it would be fun to have some kind of cutscene with two or more partners at a time discussing their poly deal. Could also lead to some interactions between characters who don’t interact often! Idk I like character interactions.

In this vein, though, I think there still is replayability with poly romance. You can choose to only be with one bachelor(ette) in one save, or two in another, or none in yet another!
