is there a way i can check my relationship with my pet on mobile?

No, apart from the pop up notification once you reach full hearts, there is currently no way to check.

it’s a 1.6 functionality so it’ll be included in the update, but I don’t know when that will release.

It's possible to go through the game files though it's a bit of a hassle for something rather minor. I'd do as Ereo said and just keep an eye out for the notification when the pet does hit max friendship.

Outside of a single point for the grandpa evaluation it doesn't serve any purpose so if you have extra points to make sure you get at least 12 without needing the pet friendship point you'll be all good (and you can always redo the evaluation with a diamond offering)
