Pet action idea

Didn't look through all the suggestions so not sure if it's been posted.
I think it would be cool if you consistently love and fill the water bowl for your pet they would fetch you a random item. Maybe just forage item and rarely gemstones.
Give the pets on your farm something extra besides just roaming aimlessly.

It would be nice if they had more of a function other than grandpa shrine points. In 1.6 I guess they can model your hat collection If that is a function . I just wish you could have more than 1 cat or dog or both . But yeah it is a good idea one that could certainly be expanded on especially since it takes quite a while to get that love message. Perhaps you get that love message and maybe they find something for you every once in a while would be cool.

I don't have extra cats or cat feets (feets?) Laying around though...

I really like the idea of the pets doing something. Maybe the dog could bring drift wood or newspaper and the cat could bring bug meat when they're happy (regularly pet and given water)?
Also, I still want the option to build a doghouse.

A cutscene is a great idea! Instead of the dialogue "[pet's name] loves you" just popping up in the corner, there could be a cutscene of them coming to the farmer (triggered by filling their bowl) where they bring an item for the first time and then the farmer plays with them before the dialogue comes up on screen. For the dog you could play fetch, and for the cat, you could use your fishing pole/line to dangle some bug meat like a cat toy.

Some relevant changes from the 1.6 changelog:

• You can now get multiple pets (after getting max hearts with your starter pet).
• Pets that love you will sometimes give you gifts.
