New update, let's USE the community center?

So I've been thinking as so many of us have been lately about what I want to see in the update and what I'm excited for and everything. One thing goes through my mind over and over. I wish that after all the trouble we go through to fix the community center that we actually used it from time to time.

Christmas: why do a gift exchange out in the cold when it would be really cool to have the inside of the community center all decorated with a Christmas tree and that's where you go for the event Everyone in there around the fire, talking, exchanging gifts.

New Years: We don't really have a genuine Happy New year celebration. Why not a new holiday where we use the community center to celebrate the new year or something?

Literally anything: Honestly this. I just really wish we would actually use the thing. There's so much fuss about fixing it and for us veteran players It's not overtly difficult to fix it but it definitely requires a time investment, which not complaining nothing wrong with that part, but I feel like we fix it, and it looks really really nice, and then it never gets used except for Evelyn doing whatever she does in there and Clint going in there to work the furnace and cry about Emily or something I'm sure. 😂

How do you all feel?

That's a really great idea. We could have the Christmas and new New Years event happen inside the community center. Right now that place just feels rather underwhelming and useless (and even a nuisance sometimes, since some shopkeepers tend to stay there instead). Nothing special happens there and the villagers don't come there together too often.

I felt bittersweet about fixing the place since I really miss the junimos but at least Pierre got some sweet revenge on that certain someone.

You can’t really do much with it since players who take Joja route will be left out. But yeah it feels strange after you fix it you’re the only one not going there anymore.

And the fish tank is empty!
What if Joja hosted the events? They could push aside the boxes and let Morris be center stage, inviting the citizens of Pelican Town to join in on their celebrations. For example, at Christmas, instead of a gift exchange, everyone gets presents from Joja.

Honestly I was just thinking the exact same thing. I mean sure, some villagers visit it and change away from their normal schedules once it's complete, but more could be done with it. I was thinking smaller events leading up to the larger holidays.

So my idea would have something happen a day or two prior to each festival, be they something you can interact with and move throughout the centre and talk with others, or just a cut scene with a few choices popping up.

Egg Festival: In the days leading up to it, you can go in and help some villagers paint eggs.
Flower Dance: You could bring some flowers to the centre for the dancers to use in their dresses and suits.
--
Luau: Talk to the mayor about bringing in an entertainer such as a juggler or fire breather to preform on the beach.
Dance of the Moonlight Jellies: Help some of the villagers craft little boats as a send off.
--
Stardew Valley Fair: Talk to Gus about different foods that could be cooked and given out at the fair.
Spirit's Eve: Carving Jack-o-Lanterns and making costumes.
--
Festival of Ice: Suggest different sculpture possibilities.
Feast of the Winter Star: Wrapping presents, drinking coffee and pastries, carolling and maybe dancing?

Of course, those are just my ideas. As someone else suggested, something of a New Year's event would be nice.

I think community center would be nice to have other use. Some suggestion above me are indeed very nice. I think it can also invite some new people (tourist?) and sell some rare item, like in dessert. Then those seller can get a backstory, like you know, many seller doesnt have a backstory. They feel empty. And, most important though, WHY GUS NEVER GO TO THE KITCHEN OF COMMUNITY CENTER? Cmon, go cook something there

I wish the different rooms in the community centre did things. You could cook in the kitchen, store things in the pantry, craft in the craft room, raise fish in the tank like you would a fish pond, get help wanted quests at the bulletin board, smelt or process things in the boiler room, and do something else in the room with a safe. Yeah, it would leave out people who chose JoJa, but I think that would be appropriate. From the very beginning of the game, JoJa is presented as the destructive enemy. By choosing JoJa, you choose the easy route and also turn traitor against the town, destroying its physical heart. The game clearly presents joining JoJa as the immoral option. If you do so, the game punishing you for it by not giving you access to what you would have gotten from completing the community centre feels appropriate. Your actions have consequences, after all.

I really like this idea and have always thought the community center for all the work that we put into rebuilding it should have a more long term purpose. I really like some of the suggestions here. I also think that this could lead to a greater storyline for the mayor and our player. The mayor can no longer stay mayor (getting old, or some other reason) and he asks our player to take up the mayoral mantel. By doing this, we would have full access to the community center. We can store our funds in the bank, timed missions can pop up on the cork board, we can connect with neighboring towns (if more were to be introduced) and the towns people, using it as a HUB for what it is would be great. Implementing other suggestions on the thread such as using it for holidays and other events would be cool too. Either way, using the Community Center for more than just a fix up would give the building more long term purpose than just fixing it and sending Jojo out (which is still super satisfying every time I fix the community center up LOL).

I also have thought becoming mayor could be an interesting late game addition, especially if you got to use the community center.

Honestly, that sounds fun! Like a meeting place for the holidays other than the town square. I like that. Add some additional uses for the Community Center.
