Switch New day started and large sum of gold disappeared (HELP PLEASE)

My title pretty much sums up what happened - I was playing, had a good amount of gold that I was excited about, went to bed and the new day started and BAM a good amount of my gold suddenly disappeared!!! I didn't notice right away - I watered my plants, and lately my morning routine has been going down to the beach to look for shells to sell (I'm only a few real life days into the game so I am still starting off real early in the game world) and after I sold my shells with the fisherman guy I checked my balance and it was WAY LOWER THAN IT SHOULD BE. Playing it safe, I know I had AT LEAST $12,600 gold when I went to bed. I visibly remember seeing that because I was game planning what farm building to buy as my first building. When I looked after selling my shells I had only roughly $3,800....... I checked my inventory - didn't accidently buy anything....started crazy looking everywhere.... didn't forget that I actually bought something or did something.... looked everywhere and there is NOTHING. The gold is just gone.

I looked this up online (reddit) and I've seen others mention having this issue and stating that they had it happen multiple times and that's what made them finally go online to report it/discuss it. Honestly, I'm so bummed that I don't really want to even keep playing if there is a risk of that happening again.... anyone else have that issue? Or is this where the game moderators are able to look into individual's history to track down errors??

PLEASE HELP! I was really getting into this game but I'm devastated :(
