Question Need help with mods

So I wanted to join my friend in modded stardew valley, I have done all the instructions correctly by installing SMAPI and putting the mods where they should be, but whenever I try to create a new game or load a previous file, it instantly crashes! If anyone has any answers or tips that would be perfect!

First I would make sure your mod file is named "Mods" and make sure when you click on the game icon it actually launches smapi command console. Launching the game through your files: If you go into your game's files there is StardewModdingAPI (SMAPI) application which launches modded SDV. The plain "Stardew Valley" is how you launch the game without mods. Launching the game through Steam: Make sure the file pathway is linked to the SMAPI version in your game file.

I do realize that your issue is making a save so I recommend making sure there is nothing wrong with your save files, it is possible that in creating the mods folder something messed up your other files. I recommend uninstalling smapi and reinstalling. Afterwards you should have 4 folders in your game file "Content", "Mods", "save-backups", and "smapi-internal" followed by all the different extensions the game uses. If you have any other details I may be able to help further.

It could be an issue with loading the farm map if you are using a non vanilla farm type like grandpas farm or something along those lines. If that is the case you should uninstall that mod. Also look through the crash report in the command console if possible. When launching the game the command console will warn you about certain mods that may cause crashes because they are game altering so also keep an eye out for that when first launching the game. In general the crash could be caused by an out of date mod that is no longer compatible with your other framework mods.

If you go to the site that was posted, it tells you how to find them based on your operating system.

What if you just hit Windows Key + R -> Type in %appdata% and hit run. It should open up your appdata folder, you should then be able to find Stardew Valley inside there and continue until you get to the error logs.
