This post might be a bit all over the place, but there’s no questions, just a mini review, thanks and some context for my excitement.
I have played the video game for over 1,000 hours, both solo and with friends in different states and countries, but most of my local friends aren’t interested in video games. However, we do often get together to eat, chat and play board games when there’s time. So the moment this board game was announced, I knew I had to order a copy. I was very excited and immediately made a purchase after I got home. Then I was glad I had done so since the first printing sold out so quickly.
I received my copy of the board game three days ago and since then have played it 3 times, twice solo and once with a friend who loves board games. I haven’t noticed any issues with my copy. So far, the game has been quite enjoyable and both my friend and I are looking forward to playing it again together. Eventually we’ll be playing it with others for the full 4 player experience.
Although I haven’t gone through everything in detail, the overall game has been fun and a moderate difficulty. As it is with most of the board games we play, I have taken some liberties with interpreting some of the vaguer event, item and other card descriptions, but given the wording and rule book, I don’t think I’ve made the game easier or harder by doing so. I’ll probably go through the forums to find answers to questions if they do come up. I’ll also see if it gets more difficult or confusing when played with my less game-oriented friends. Nonetheless, the three games that have been played has made me quite happy and also convinced one person of giving the video game(which they own, but barely touched) a second try.
Thank you to ConcernedApe for Stardew Valley in general and to Cole for helping make the board game possible! The gameplay and art’s great, so thanks to everyone else who has made a contribution to the game! Here’s to hoping the game lasts the test of time because I plan to play it with friends & family long into the future whenever I get the chance.
Random fact: My birthday is in March, so the late February announcement was a wonderful pre-birthday surprise.
