Mute all sounds while the game is in the background toggle option. Maybe combine "Pause When Game Window Is Inactive" option with automatic mute of all sounds when the game is alt-tabbed out.
I've also seen a suggestion elsewhere for a master/primary volume slider that controls music, sound, ambient, and footstep volume. Having the game itself automatically toggle all of those if the player chooses the checkbox would be a quality of life improvement over manually muting the game in the Windows Volume Mixer. With the checkbox option, this would also allow players who still enjoy listening to the (lovely) music in the background should they choose to do so.
