Issue MSI Afterburner issue

Hey, so it's not really my issue, but my friend doesn't have an account here so I'm just gonna post her problem and hope for the best!

So I sent her my mods folder, my game was working perfectly fine, and I was waiting for her to host our server. She tried to open up the game but it kept reseting, then we discovered an error code in the console (I'll include it).
I dug up every site but I couldn't find any answers. Anyone knows how to disable MSI Afterburner?

Thank you for the help already!

As long as you don't have Afterburner up and running, it shouldn't be doing anything in the background. And neither are necessary to manage your GPU as Stardew Valley consumes very few video resources.

Check the system tray on the lower right to make sure neither are running. Or restart the computer and make sure it isn't starting up with Windows (this is not its default behavior, or at least mine have never done that). I've occasionally forgotten about AB & RTS and left them running which is how I found out Stardew Valley used to use DX9 in 1.5.4 and earlier. I'll try it out today just to see.

Thank you for your comment, but neither of those were running, yet it was just crashing after crashing. My friend used to play on their laptop which doesn't have these features, and now they wanted to play on a desktop pc which has this issue. I guess our game is on a pause untill they get back their laptop:/

There have been a number of posts recently about crashing and other low performance issues, which other people have tied to something I mentioned at the end of my post. In either the v1.5.5 or v1.5.6 update, the video rendering engine was switched from DirectX 9 (in v1.5.4) to OpenGL. And when I just tried Stardew Valley with Afterburner running, AB confirmed that it's OpenGL now. Normally this doesn't matter at all to someone playing the game as one is as useful as the other. But in this case it does seem to have messed up the display of the game or even caused crashes for some people like your friend.

There seems to be a consistent type of video card which is prone to this recent problem, Intel HD 3000, the integrated video card from many 2011-2012 Intel machines. I have 2 of these and yes, Stardew Valley crashes out on those. Perhaps your friend's desktop PC is also from this time but the problem is not limited to these computers, just more prevalent among them.

One thing your friend can try is downloading the most recent drivers for the video card manufacturer of their machine. If you go here:
https://www.techpowerup.com , in the upper right under Latest GPU Drivers, are links to the 3 manufacturers' most recent updates, as well as links to the most recent versions for older GPUs which are no longer suported. I get my updates there.

Additionally, @Tom here in the Forums found a way around this problem for many Windows Intel HD 3000 users here:

Alas, my HD 3000 machines are Macs so no solution for those, yet.
