Money Making in Year 1

I sell
Tea Saplings as they're quick, easy and sell for 250g, but you will greatly benefit from some early planning.

You get the recipe from :caroline:Caroline at 2  in a cutscene in her Tea Room thru the door in the Kitchen, so I gift Caroline Daffodils exclusively in early game (yes, none for Haley!). Talk to her every day.

The Tea Sapling is made from Wood, Fiber, and Wild Seeds. You know how to get Wood.

EDIT!
I knew I forgot something, the Wild Seeds! You get a whole bunch of these from each season's Community Center Foraging Bundle reward and if you forage while doing other things, you'll end up with enough Forage to generate a lot of other seeds. These aren't usually a shortage as 1 each of the 3 to 4 different forageables gets you 5 Tea Saplings, or 1250g.

Fiber is all planning. You get it from scything Weeds but you need to leave 1 or 2 Weeds in every spot you scythe as they spread faster than they generate. So don't clear them all, just most of them. Big concentrations in early game are around the Community Center, behind JojaMart, and in Cindersap Forest. Still, they regenerate pretty slowly, so:

You can also farm Weeds in the Mines in Levels 11-29 and 91-109. So you have some access pretty early on in game. Just take the elevator to 10 or whichever and scythe what you find (some levels you need to take the ladder to the next level). Elevator up and down to Level 15, elevator to 20, and so on. If you elevator to the top of the mines, wait a game time tick (10 minutes in-game) and all the floors will reset and you can visit them again for more weeds.

MOOOARRRRR WEEEDSS!

And if you still need more g in Summer, the Green Rain day is your time to weed the entire map like a fiend and also get loads of Moss which you will need in later game.

You're never enjoyed weeding so much, won't your Mom be proud!

Yes but most of my wood is going to the coops and barns plus I don’t usually focus on friendships in year 1

While I work on relationships (OK almost everything) Year 1, Caroline is the only person I directly work on getting to 2  because there's a financial payoff. It would be interesting to compare other strategies to see if they work better for your playstyle.

I fish a lot in the early - early game, after I unlock preserve jars, most of my income is pickles/jam, and then pale ale and beer from kegs. In fall I get a lot of money from pumpkin juice, and with that complete the vault. I get coop and barn built somewhere in summer and they are usually fully upgraded by the winter, but I never get a pig in time for Y1 truffle and CC completion. But mayo and cheese also go in the shipping bin.
Oh and I just remembered - mushroom logs. Whenever I set up my trees with tappers I put mushroom logs between them. Then just harvest whenever ready, put them in the dehydrator. And sometimes I put purple mushrooms in preserve jars if I have nothing else to put in there. One of my favourite methods.
And probably the last thing I can thing of is a crimsonfish pond - aged roe sells for 1560 g.

Thanks! I’ll need to remember to save some pumpkins for juice. And also harvest lots of moss in summer for the logs

Glad to help :)
Green rain really usually lets me gather enough moss, but hardwood can sometimes be a struggle
