*bump*

I know it’s a beast to conquer, but I’m desperate if anyone knows.

To @ArtifactSpot.

Lucky for you, I am here. ( I wasn't named after the great Caesar for no reason )
The first of many considerations to make would be to "begin" with the fact that the steamdeck is automagically initialised in a readonly state. While this terminology may be confused to a "noobie" such as yourself, it is quite simple, even a toddler could understand. I'm sure you'll get there eventually o7.

The initial step to combat this simple problem is to access the "terminal", if you do not know how to do this, how do you even get out of bed in the morning without hurting yourself?
However, for an intellectual such as myself, this problem is trivial.

Type in your terminal:
Code:
$ steamos-readonly disable
This will allow us to modify our files and install new packages, without the non-foss steamdeck software restrictions.

The next step in our venture will be to add the NIX directory service.
Code:
touch /etc/systemd/system/nix-directory.service
Then "create" the other files needed and fill them in with the necessary data. Even a layman such as yourself could do such a simple task.

Next, install smapi through the command line once you have your NIX environment setup.

It should be "trivial" for "you" to mod from this point.

No need to thank me *dips hat*.

Mucho Regards,
Your friendly neighbourhood "Code Inspector" Julius.

PS, If you are really struggling please refer to this guide by my "old friend", https://christitus.com/steamdeck-as-a-desktop/
PPS, When you become powerful ( only a fraction of my power ), make sure you remember who let you. ( ME )

"Good" Luck in your adventures traveller.
Um thanks I think. You know how hard it is for little old me to do that. Always remember little old me told you something you obviously don’t yet know, a little old word called humility. Don’t worry it will be given to you one day. On a silver spoon, of course, since that’s obviously all you know how to eat from. Just remember then another little old saying “that a spoon full of sugar will help the medicine go down”…well maybe. Let little old me know if the saying is true or not, I’m just dying to hear about it.
