Android Marnie Keeps Dropping Off My Cat! (bug)

Just started playing for the first time. I'm playing on Android (Moqi i7s if that matters). I'm a few days into summer at this point, and Marnie keeps dropping my cat off almost every morning. I have to go through the whole cutscene and rename my cat every time. From some Googling, it looks like this is not normal.

Any ideas how I can fix this? It's super obnoxious.

I am playing on IOS and having the same issue. Sometimes the cat stays for a few in game days, but each time I log back in marnie is there delivering the cat.
