There would be an item that you can craft using copper and a battery that you can place on any fence gate. It would change the appearance of the gate, but more importantly, it would automatically open the gate when getting near it while wearing a magnet ring or similar, and automatically close again when leaving its range.
It can be a little annoying to open and close gates every time you go somewhere on the farm if you want to keep neat fences everywhere. This would attempt to improve QoL for late game progression.
