Switch (Local co-op) Game crashes after descending 300+ levels in the Skull Caverns

Hi I've been playing with my wife on our switch and we have been desperately trying to obtain an auto petter. I tried going on a super deep skull cavern run while she does other things but all 3 attempts of redoing the same day resulted in a crash at between 830 pm and 11 pm in game time. It is the dance of the moonlight jellies that day so maybe that's interfering with it? We've experienced similar crashes on festival days before but also non festival days, but we usually would just not do whatever we were doing again instead of continuing to try. Is there anything we can do to mitigate or avoid this? Or are we just never supposed to fully enjoy the game?

I would like to add that despite leaving before the time it crashes usually, going into the Skull Cavern the next day still crashed my game. And this was after powering down my switch completely to see if that helped. So it's definitely a Skull Cavern issue of some kind.

I also experience frequent crashes on Switch with local coop. It happens more frequently when we go far in the Skull Cavern, or buy more stuff than normal. Any fixes that you have been able to find?

My best solution was to swap to single player, it made the crash happen way later. We were specifically wanting an auto petter since the only way to get it was the Skulll Cavern since we completed the Community Center, so I just kept resetting the same great luck day until I ether crashed, ran out of staircases or got it. I'm really hoping it is fixed in the 1.6 update that is supposed to release today. Especially since there's new Skull Cavern content. Thankfully the update also adds a different way to get an auto petter too. Out of curiosity, how old is your switch? Mine is from 2018.
