Kids, JoJo Mart, and elections. New faces.

I'm not sure if it has been discussed before, or what the technical challenges may be, but I've always kind of wished that our kids could grow to at least teenagers. Sometimes I get to a point during a long game where, and this is horrible to say, I get tired of seeing toddlers sitting there not really providing interaction or dialogue, just kind of in the way. Lol

Another thing that I think would be interesting is how when we support the community center, things happen. I think it would be cool if we decided to support Jojo Mart instead, Pierre's closes or stops selling or something. The newest bundle is so cool, and I would be curious to see the flip side of that.

After like 30 farms and thousands of hours I still play Stardew Valley every single day. It would be super refreshing to see a fresh face to mix things up. A new villager or two move in or something. I like so many of us have and still play so much Stardew Valley that we have been in a relationship with or gone through every interaction of every citizen. And of course we're going to keep doing it because Stardew Valley. In a town so small even a single new face could completely change the entire feel for hours of gameplay for a long time fans.

Lastly, does anyone else wish we could run for mayor? 🤔 I genuinely might be the only one but I always thought that would be interesting too. He's always kind of a butt to you-know-who, and since exposing them doesn't really expose them and you can't really influence the relationship, I think it would be cool if you could whether it be running for mayor or if exposing him and you-know-who had genuine consequences. And I'm not heartless when I say consequences I don't mean like disgrace the mayor or make him resign or anything negative like that, I suppose the word I should use is effect. I wish exposing them had an effect on the way things are viewed in town, albeit positive or negative.

I'm curious what the community thinks. ✌🏼❣

i think more depth being added to the children would be very nice! and more to jojamart would be really nice too

i think more villagers would be great, i'm always for more content, but i think regardless people will get used to what gets added and will ask for more. so i think the real question is, if we add new villagers, how can they be implemented that keeps things fresh and exciting?

i like our current mayor, but more campaigns happening would be fun and cool

Totally recommend mods for this. I was super intimidated for a long time but I finally took the plunge and downloaded some and now I have 30! It really helps freshen things up. I recommend GameSharkx's guide to downloading mods. That's the one that convinced me to take the plunge. It's easier than it looks. : )

I think the mayor thing is worth addressing on it's own. I have no problems with the other ideas, but we gotta ask ourselves what becomming the mayor would entail. How much do you think you can accomplish on top of your farm? Would you give it to someone else? Would you favor policies that favor your farm, such as an increase or decrease on taxes on certain goods?

Remember, the tone of this game is like Spongebob or Animaniacs. There are dirty things happening, and there are very, very dark and mentally ill things happening in this game if you pay close attention. This game puts on a happy face for children, but what's happening when you read between the lines, which is very much intentional, from false paternity to Haley's wonderfully innocent requests (tbh, i genuinely get the impression that she's getting trolled by Emily, and that she actually has no idea what these thing she's asking for are references to), so to allow the player to become a mayor is to suggest that we take the time to encourage the player into becomming one of the bad guys, which, i understand already exists in the game, but not to the degree that it becomes ultimately encouraged. Because, to just make you the mayor, without exploring the dark side of power and it's ability to corrupt everyone, especially you, would be against the nature and feel of the game. I haven't gone through everyone's story, yet, but there's not one person whose storyline i went through yet and can say "yes, this person is a saint," despite the happy presentation the community has overall. The closest, is Haley or Maru, ironically enough, but there's plenty of reason to believe they're not saints at their core. I think one of the subtexts of the game's story is those who choose not to give into their vices are the ones who build things, while those who do not control their desires end up destroying things, which i don't know if that was intentional or not, but it's pretty true to life, as everyone has vices, but those who control them tend to have much fewer problems and tend to hurt fewer innocents.

It's true no one's perfect, but I'm not sure if I'd describe any characters as giving in to vices or destroying things. I think personally I'd say most characters are doing their best. And Linus is pretty wholesome! Some things are left up to player interpretation though.

I'm sorry, but I don't know anyone who would say the wizard's vice was ethical. He broke at least one family, and i'm not sure how it affected another family, 'cause the ramifications have not even remotely played out to their full extent. I distinctly not liking Linus in particular, because of his politics. He distinctly reminds me of certain political figures throughout history, one of which indirectly caused the death of millions of people with his line of logic (although we can't necessarily blame the deaths directly on this figure, he did justify murder). While we could argue that Linus himself did not, from linus' 0 heart event we learn that he does not believe in property rights, and will refuse to respect them on the grounds that he believes he knows better than anyone else. While most of us might agree, he is a classic example of "the road to hell is paved with the best of intentions." As a result, Linus is tolerable, but imagine a situation where i threw something away that Linus might think was edible, but is actually toxic. What would happen to me? I would be charged with his murder, or i would be let of scott free on the justification that he was committing a crime, if this turns out to be a crime in that world. While this has not actually happened in game, it's not even unlikely, given Maru's and Demetrius's predispositions towards experimentation. What if, say, they were to throw something away in another trash can, while making a demonstration at someone else's house of something they came up with, especially in regards to experimenting with a new fertilizer or pesticide on my farm (assumed to be with my consent)? Outside of legal concerns, what about how people would be affected by such an accident, especially in self-reflection? How much further is Linus willing to take that line of thought? Would he break into someone's place, and take something (even money), because it's going to waste? His line of reasoning precludes such behaviors. That said, I don't consider Linus the worst, but I do consider him one of the bad eggs.

Hi!

My only idea for how to make kids useful (this is probably tough to actually do but anyway...)

I think it would be cool if they "grew up" and you were able to pick a skill of focus for them. Like you can "teach" your kid foraging and he/she will go out onto the map and chop trees, or at least pick up foragables. That would make it easier to have a somewhat steady flow of hardwood haha. Another example is fishing, your kid could randomly pick a water type and go and catch fish during the day. Those are a couple of easy examples though, I think farming and combat would be tricky.

It would be rough in some ways, easier in others. I thought about doing something similar in a game i'm considering putting together, but it's of a totally different and much darker nature than stardew.

I see your point and I can't say I disagree with it either. I suppose in my own defense that would probably be one of the last things I would want anyway. 😂 It was just kind of spitting ideas into type.

This is a cool idea and I honestly wouldn't complain even if they just like grew up and moved out or said like in a certain dialogue Hey I'm going to the city or I'm doing this or that and then you just get letters from them periodically. I just want kids to grow up and move out lol
